Job Title: Tax & Compliance Specialist

Location: St. Ann, MO (Hybrid*)

*50/50 in-person/office and remote, candidate must reside in the Greater St. Louis area and be able to commute to the HQ office in St. Ann on a regular basis

Pay Range: $70,000 - 95,000.00 base salary

Reports To: Finance Director

The Tax & Compliance Specialist manages Tax & Compliance duties for United Access. The Specialist is responsible for the administration of all state and local tax activities, including tax deposits and filing tax returns for Sales & Use taxes and Property Tax. The Specialist will also be responsible for maintaining registrations to ensure that we can operate legally within our 15 states and 43 local municipalities. The Tax & Compliance Specialist is also responsible for government tax and registration, business licensing and supporting contract renewals. There may also be opportunities for special projects and additional responsibilities as the role develops.

Job Summary:

Key Responsibilities:

1. Tax Knowledge: Knowledge of state sales and use tax laws to include, but not limited to - AZ, CA, CO, FL, KS, MO, NV, NM, NY, OK, OR, TN, TX, UT, WA to ensure compliance with local, state and federal sales & use tax regulations.

2. Business Licensing: Maintain current business licensing requirements

3. Technical Skills: Intermediate Microsoft Office skills coupled with the ability and desire to stay current with available tools

4. Problem Solving: Ability to research issues, identify root causes, document and support resolution of found issues

5. Process Improvement: Identify opportunities for process improvements and efficiencies within tax processes and recommend actions to management

6. Reconciliation: Reconcile tax-related transactions verifying that the dealer management system is correctly calculating and collecting the various local taxes. Ensuring the accuracy of the tax liabilities monthly will include management of needed refunds or clearing journal entries

Minimum Skills and Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • 3-5 years of experience with primary responsibilities in tax and compliance
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in reporting
  • Basic understanding of accounting principles
  • Experience using accounting software
  • Intermediate MS Excel skills (standard formulas, pivot tables)
  • Solid written and verbal communication skills
  • Robust organization and documentation skills
  • Experience supporting sales and use tax compliance
  • Automotive or related industry tax experience preferred
