Position Summary
The Accountant supports the financial operations of the Council be performing day-to-day accounting functions, maintaining accurate financial records, and ensuring compliance with nonprofit accounting standards. This position plays a critical role in supporting the Finance Department with timely and accurate processing of transactions, reconciliations, and reporting.
At Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, most of our roles work in a hybrid capacity (in office, remote, and/or in the field). Details will be provided during the interview process.

The position is full time with a competitive hiring salary range of $50,673 - $59,540.
Essential Job Duties
- Process accounts receivable transactions, ensuring accuracy and proper documentation.
- Prepare and post journal entries in accordance with GAAP and fund accounting principles.
- Reconcile bank accounts, credit card statements, and other financial records on a monthly basis.
- Maintain general ledger accounts and assist with month-end and year-end close procedures.
- Assist in the preparation of internal financial reports and external grant reporting.
- Track restricted and unrestricted funds to ensure proper allocation of expenses.
- Maintain organized and accurate financial files and records.
- Assist with the annual audit and tax filings by providing necessary documentation and support.
- Contribute to process improvement and internal controls within the finance function.
- Maintain the fixed assets listing and record transactions related to purchases, sales, and depreciation.
- Serve as a collaborative team member, working to advance the mission of Girl Scouts.
- Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.
- Three (3) years of accounting experience.
- Experience in a non-profit environment is preferred.
- Valid state driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a driving record that is acceptable to our insurance carrier.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Solid understanding of GAAP and nonprofit fund accounting principles.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs, integrated financial systems, and other general office equipment.
- Strong Excel skills and comfort working with financial data.
- Ability to analyze and evaluate complex data.
- Organized thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to work well independently and as part of a collaborative team.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and act with integrity.
- Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced, dynamic organization.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee:
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time operating a computer, including navigating websites, software platforms, spreadsheets and both electronic and paper documents.
Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copier, and computer printer.
Occasionally positions self to maintain files in file cabinets.
May need to move boxes weighing up to 25 pounds across office for various needs.
The ability to observe details at close range and at a distance.
Is required to drive/ operate an automobile.
Work Environment
Constantly works in an indoor professional office environment. Exposed to moderate noise levels.
