Why This Role Is Valuable  

We are looking for an ambitious Sr. AVP with skill in Liability and Casualty to join our Global Risk and Insurance team. The Sr. AVP, Insurance Placement is responsible for identifying, evaluating, and analyzing risks inherent to the operations of the company and it’s affilates and ultimately reducing the firm’s cost of risk. This individual will be expected to identify and evaluate the risk exposures and to administer the risk management programs efficiently, as well as remain informed of the changes that occur within the company and recommend/execute changes to the program(s) as appropriate. They will track and review all insurance policies held by the company and support renewal process annually.

How You Add Value

  • Create robust Liability and Casualty Insurance programs and allocations across multiple asset classes.

  • Create, refine, and implement processes around budgeting, invoicing, market updates, and renewal communications

  • Understand and manage the actuarial modeling results provided by external partners

  • Develop strong, effective working relationships with company’s management and internal customers at each property to communicate casualty insurance standards.

  • Establish yourself as the casualty and liability resource and educate the Portfolio Companies on the various insurance coverages and risk mitigation opportunities.

  • Implement, administer, and monitor risk management techniques/strategies to efficiently and cost-effectively manage those risks (i.e., captives, risk transfer, risk mitigation/loss control, risk avoidance, risk elimination, risk retention, etc.).

  • Regularly review the liability insurance programs for enhancements and work closely with brokers to create cost savings opportunities.

  • Effectively interact with company’s risk team, brokers, RMIS vendors and insurers in communicating company’s risk related goals and objectives.

  • Coordinate issuance and distribution of Certificates of Insurance to company business partners with the broker. Evaluate and monitor incoming certificates to determine if they meet the appropriate contractual requirements and take needed action if not.

  • Regularly review insurance programs for enhancements and work closely with brokers to create cost savings opportunities.

  • Collect and manage exposure information for a large real estate portfolio spanning multiple asset classes through use of Risk Management Information System (RMIS).

  • Verifies development activity by collecting and organizing contracts, policies and insurance certificates and comparing to appropriate contracts, leases or agreements. 

  • Assist Risk Management Transaction team with review of construction policies and contracts for acquisitions actively under construction or immediately post construction.

  • Utilize the RMIS to develop meaningful reports across the various Portfolio Companies.

  • Effectively interact with company’s risk team, brokers, RMIS vendors and insurers in communicating company’s risk related goals and objectives.

  • Act as an in-house resource to educate, advise, and counsel company management, staff and business partners where necessary to reduce or transfer risks.

  • Review insurance binders, invoices, and policies for accuracy and manage the retention of policies, schedules of insurance and other risk management documentation based on company’s retention policy.

  • Participate in forums, risk management educational programs and other educational opportunities to stay abreast of emerging issues affecting risks.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What You Bring To The Role

  • Bachelor’s degree in Risk Management, Accounting, (Computational/Quantitative) Finance, Economics or related field required

  • 10+ years overall risk experience

  • Advanced degree  or industry-specific designations (CIC, ARM, CPCU, etc.) preferred

  • Property & Casualty Broker’s License preferred

  • Insurance expertise with specific focus on General Liability, Umbrella Liability, Excess Liability, Auto Liability, Workers Compensation, and Management Liability.

  • Preferred knowledge and understanding of various real estate sectors, including the main products and services produced and processes used

  • First-class interpersonal skills, including relationship building and maintenance

  • Proficient working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel

  • Excellent communication (verbal & written), numerical, presentation & organizational skills

  • Self-motivated with the ability to work effectively as part of a team in a fast-paced, dynamic environment where superior time-management and prioritization skills are essential

  • Be willing to travel 15% domestically

Base Compensation Range:

$148,434.00 To $217,618.00. This represents the presently-anticipated low and high end of the Company’s base compensation range for this position. Actual base compensation range may vary based on various factors, including but not limited to location and experience.

Total Direct Compensation:  This job is also eligible for discretionary bonus and incentive compensation on an annual basis.
