Job DescriptionSenior Engineer Quality AssuranceFLSA Status: ExemptJob SummaryResponsible for, and technical expertise in, ensuring that the company’s quality management system, procedures, inspection, test, and work processes are in compliance with AAR, FRA, TTX and associated industry-related standards, regulations and requirements. Additional primary responsibilities include the performance of dynamic process audits at various locations to ensure company practices and work performed complies with pre-defined standards, regulations and requirements. Provide detailed assessment reports to associated parties for the identification of follow-on continual improvement initiatives and activities. Lead problem investigation, critical-to-quality product, and process improvement activities. The majority of the assigned tasks require the individual to work in an independent and collaborative nature. Moderate travel is required and therefore is a candidate for working out of home office for the balance of the work time. Has in-depth knowledge of the organization, processes and customers. Act as a mentor and provide leadership to colleagues.Responsibilities - Execute a data driven, performance improvement approach to develop new and/or enhance the existing company’s Quality Management System, Procedures, Tools and Practices in compliance with:
- TTX specific requirements and instructions
- Field Manual of the AAR Interchange Rules
- AAR Manual of Standards & Recommended Practices, with emphasis on MRP Specification J – Specification for Quality Assurance (Specification M-1003)
- Applicable Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) Railroad Standards
- Perform dynamic process audits aligned to the companies data driven (QA Dashboard), performance improvement goals and objectives.
- Provide detailed assessments (inspections and/or audits) in accordance to TTX QA procedures that contains precise, accurate, and robust details. Follow filing and reporting protocol consistently.
- Work closely with internal and external groups providing professional quality guidance and technical leadership.
- Responsible for assisting in the growth and development of junior quality Engineering personnel by sharing their knowledge, experience and skills.
- Provide technical assistance and/or facilitate activities at assigned locations to resolve product and process quality issues to enhance their ability to meet AAR, FRA, and TTX Company requirements.
- Must be fully committed to safety, customer satisfaction, and continuous quality improvement, with a demonstrated history of performing duties safely.
Qualifications - Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent) from a 4-year university.
- Self-motivated, with demonstrated ability to manage a diverse workload with minimal direct supervision.
- 9+ years related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of Mechanical Engineering education and experience.
- Ability to perform process and product audits in accordance with TTX procedures at:
- Repair and field maintenance shop operations
- New car manufacturing and lease acquisitions
- Supplier selection, evaluation and 1 st article activities.
- Strong ability to communicate and interface with shop management, supervision, and other associated personnel to obtain an accurate situational assessment.
- Proficient with computer software such as Windows, MS Word, MS Excel and PowerPoint.
- Requires the ability to read and interpret data, bend, stoop, climb and walk in an industrial and/or railroad environment.
- Proficient in applying mathematical analysis to problem solving.
- Proficient in effectively presenting information and responding to questions from groups of managers, directors, AVP, VP, President, clients, customers, and the general public.
- Proficient in defining problems, collecting data, establishing facts, drawing valid conclusions, and providing recommended course of action.
- Requires the ability to obtain a TWIC card and eRailsafe Badge for access to ports and various railroad locations around the country.
Preferred QualificationsIn addition to the above minimum qualifications, the following qualifications are preferred: - AWS CWI or ASNT NDE Level II Certification(s).
- Prior experience managing/auditing an AAR M-1003 compliant QA program.
- Previous ASQ or AAR Auditor training and experience working in Quality Assurance.
- Proficient in AutoCAD and 3-D modeling software (Solidworks is preferred).
- Experienced with Engineering Tools (FEA, MATLAB, etc.) to investigate and provide engineering solutions.
