UX Designer and Digital Content Officer

Salary: Up to £30,000

Location: Newark (Nottinghamshire) - Fully remote with occasional travel to Newark and rest of the UK

Full time: 35 hours per week

Permanent position

About Us

The Wildlife Trusts are a federated movement of 46 charities, supported by a central charity, the Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts. Together we have 900,000 members, 32,500 volunteers and 3,400 staff across the UK. Wildlife Trusts have restored and care for some of the most special places for wildlife in the UK. We undertake research, we stand up for wildlife and wild places under threat, and we help people access nature.


The next few years will be critical in determining what kind of world we all live in. We need to urgently reverse the loss of wildlife and put nature into recovery at scale if we are to prevent climate and ecological disaster. We recognise that this will require big, bold changes in the way The Wildlife Trusts work, not least in how we mobilise others and support them to organise within their own communities.


About You

The Wildlife Trusts have an exciting new opportunity for a versatile and curious individual looking to make their mark by enhancing the user experience of the organisation’s existing internal and external digital platforms, creating a dynamic and accessible online presence for our staff, volunteers and supporters.


You will be a key member of the communications and marketing team, whilst also working closely with our IT team, to design and develop our digital platforms, improving interfaces and workflows to enhance the user experience and producing engaging content that inspires and empowers our communities. You will collaborate with, train and inspire colleagues to adopt best practices in content creation, curation and presentation to maximise the effectiveness of our digital platforms.

We are looking for a talented and creative team-player with a good foundation of digital skills and platform administration, and experience of UX work. Your contribution will help us to grow a positive working culture and inspire more people to take action for nature’s recovery.


You will possess excellent design skills, have a flair for storytelling and a proficiency in UX design tools and content creation software. You will be confident administrating a complex intranet and contributing to planning for new website functionality, with a good understanding of how to grasp user needs and solve problems, ultimately growing engagement across platforms.


You will have experience in creating and managing effective digital content collaboratively, with a natural aptitude to analyse and evaluate the impact it has. You will enjoy delving into data and embrace a test and learn culture, using insights to adapt content and layout to maximise engagement with users – ensuring every element is optimised for improved usability, usefulness and exceptional visual design. You will be adept at communicating with mass audiences, producing a range of content types (including blogs, videos, case studies, notification posts), with a creative flair and ability to create engaging and effective, easy-to-read copy.


You will be enthusiastic about keeping on top of digital communications trends and put your knowledge to effective use, advising others on best practice and implementing new approaches. You will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills and feel comfortable working with a wide range of people from across The Wildlife Trusts’ federation.
