Description

We are looking for an experienced Account Director to lead one of Drake Cooper's largest and most complex client relationships. This person will serve as a senior, day-to-day account partner who can anticipate what’s ahead, create clarity across an integrated agency team, and turn a client’s business priorities into clear marketing action.

This is a hands-on senior role for someone who has already operated at the Account Director level. The right person will take initiative without waiting for direction, build strong relationships with senior clients, stay steady when priorities compete, bring strong financial judgment, and invest in the development of account talent. They will know what to watch, when to act, when to bring people together, and when to elevate a risk, decision, or opportunity.

The Account Director will guide the client’s marketing plans and priorities through the agency, ensuring the team delivers high-quality work while operating efficiently and responsibly. They will oversee and develop a small account team, manage account revenue and forecasts, and balance exceptional client service with the financial health of the relationship. As a senior member of the agency, they will bring maturity, accountability, curiosity, and thoughtful judgment to decisions that affect both the client and Drake Cooper.

This is a hybrid role based out of our Boise, Idaho office and is required to be in the office Tuesday through Thursday.

What You Will Own:

Client Partnership
Build a strong, direct relationship with the client and become someone they trust as both an advocate and advisor. The Account Director should understand the client’s business, growth priorities, challenges, internal dynamics, and market needs well enough to anticipate what is coming next. They should bring forward recommendations, identify risks and opportunities early, and facilitate productive conversations with everyone from day-to-day contacts to senior decision-makers.

Account and Campaign Direction
Guide the client’s marketing priorities through the agency and ensure the right people are focused on the right work. The Account Director should stay especially close to initiatives that are significant in size, complexity, investment, or opportunity while giving other members of the account team meaningful ownership of the day-to-day work. They should maintain a clear view of work in progress, upcoming decisions, approvals, dependencies, and potential issues, and recognize when a situation calls for additional perspective or involvement from agency leadership.

Financial and Operational Management
Understand and actively manage the financial health of the account, including scopes of work, budgets, forecasts, staffing plans, revenue, profitability, and account billing. The Account Director should work closely with project management, media, finance, and agency discipline leads to identify capacity, timing, scope, or financial concerns before they become problems. They are responsible for balancing exceptional client service and high-quality work with responsible agency operations and a fair value exchange for both the client and Drake Cooper.

Team Development and Collaboration
Set clear expectations, delegate thoughtfully, provide timely feedback, and foster a culture of accountability, trust, and growth across the account team. The Account Director should understand the strengths, development needs, workload, and capacity of each team member and create opportunities for them to grow. This includes working closely with managed team members to build stronger strategic judgment, anticipation, confidence, and client relationship skills. The Account Director is also responsible for recognizing when the team needs additional support and raising those needs before they affect the work or the people doing it.

Reporting:

This Account Director will work closely with the Group Account Director and agency discipline leaders. The role is expected to be an active, senior presence with the client and the internal team, combining strategic oversight with enough proximity to the work to keep a large account moving well.

Requirements

    • 10+ years of progressive account management or client services experience, primarily within an integrated marketing or advertising agency.
    • Current or recent experience operating at the Account Director level, with direct ownership of a large, complex, integrated account and senior client relationships.
    • A proven record of guiding multi-disciplinary agency teams and major initiatives involving meaningful budgets, numerous stakeholders, and overlapping workstreams.
    • Demonstrated ability to move beyond ask-and-respond service: you independently identify what needs attention, develop a point of view, and help move the team toward action.
    • Strong strategic thinking and the ability to connect business context, data, client input, and agency expertise into clear recommendations.
    • The credibility, communication skills, and judgment to effectively advise senior client and agency stakeholders.
    • Excellent written and verbal communication, including the judgment to ask thoughtful questions, challenge constructively, clarify, and de-escalate when needed.
    • Strong financial acumen, with hands-on experience developing scopes, managing budgets and forecasts, protecting profitability, and navigating scope changes.
    • Exceptional organization and attention to detail, paired with the ability to maintain a higher-level view of the account and prioritize what matters most.
    • A track record of coaching account talent and helping strong performers build strategic judgment, confidence, and broader capabilities.
    • Maturity, curiosity, calm, accountability, and a collaborative approach in a dynamic environment with competing priorities.

Especially Valuable:

    • Experience leading marketing for a bank, credit union, fintech company, insurance organization, or another regulated category.
    • Experience with regional or multi-market brands, including market expansion, localized marketing, and significant integrated media investment.
    • Working knowledge of regulatory, compliance, privacy, and approval considerations that affect financial-services marketing, with the judgment to engage the right experts rather than act as legal counsel.
    • Experience supporting organic account growth, new business efforts, or agency-wide leadership initiatives.

Benefits

    • 100% Employee Owned
    • Opportunity for Bonus
    • Paid Parking at our office locations
    • 401(k) plan with a match
    • Agency-paid medical, life, and short-term disability insurance, along with options for vision, dental, additional life, and long-term disability insurance
    • A generous time off program, including family leaves and volunteer work
    • Great clients!!
