Specialist, Electrical Engineer – Surveillance
Position Summary
As a Specialist Electrical Engineer within our Surveillance product line, you will focus on developing TCAS and transponder avionics for commercial aircraft. This responsibility spans concept generation, design, qualification, production support, and lifecycle management.
You will work closely with multidisciplinary engineering teams, as well as operations and manufacturing organizations, to develop and deliver avionics products to customers worldwide. This role supports senior engineers in developing detailed analysis and documentation, executing hands-on testing and simulations, and contributing to electrical hardware design and product development activities.
Key Responsibilities
Design and support digital, analog, and power circuitry, with supplemental RF principles, for avionics applications
Design, analyze, and test circuits utilizing microprocessors, memory, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, PCIe, and various avionics interfaces
Support production operations and resolve factory issues affecting assigned products
Develop and review electrical schematics using Altium
Develop PCB layouts for multifunction boards of up to 18 layers using Altium
Develop change impact analyses and support product management activities including obsolescence management, design-to-cost, and design-for-manufacturability initiatives
Utilize electrical analysis tools for power distribution, stress analysis, and related simulations
Communicate effectively across multiple technical disciplines and engineering teams
Work directly with U.S.-based engineering teams to support global product development activities
Support electrical integration, product qualification, and engineering investigations
Perform additional duties as assigned
Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering with a minimum of 5 years of relevant experience; or Graduate Degree with a minimum of 4 years of related experience
Hands-on electrical hardware design experience across all phases of the product lifecycle including concept, design, integration, production, and test
Proven experience implementing value engineering and lean design practices
Proven experience implementing automation and AI technologies to reduce engineering cost and cycle time
Experience using automation and AI tools to streamline workflows and improve operational efficiency
Demonstrated continuous improvement mindset, with the ability to evaluate processes and implement more effective ways of working
Ability to adopt and promote automation and AI tools to improve team speed, quality, and execution
Preferred Additional Skills
High-speed digital design experience including DDR4, DDR5, PCIe, Ethernet, and related interfaces
Signal Integrity (SI) and Power Integrity (PI) simulation, analysis, and mitigation experience
Knowledge of component derating, transient protection, reliability engineering, and worst-case analysis
Experience designing DC-DC power conversion solutions including buck, boost, and flyback converters
Experience designing and qualifying AC-DC conversion systems including PFC, rectifiers, and isolated power stages
Working knowledge of Python or C++
Experience developing integrated aerospace hardware and software products
Awareness of FPGA and firmware development requirements as they impact electrical design
Excellent interpersonal skills and experience working within multidisciplinary engineering organizations
Strong written, verbal, and presentation communication skills
Experience with aerospace standards including DO-160, DO-178, and DO-254
Experience with Design-to-Cost and Design-for-Manufacturability methodologies
Experience supporting production and test activities across geographically distributed teams
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple programs and responsibilities simultaneously
Ability to operate effectively with moderate supervision and direction
