In this role, you will apply your expertise to conduct detailed technical investigations and analysis related to personal injury litigation, security incidents, building conditions, and human safety matters. This position offers the opportunity to work on a variety of complex cases, contributing valuable insights that support legal and insurance proceedings.

OVERVIEW: The Premises Liability & Security Practice Leader provides strategic, technical, and operational leadership for the firm’s Premises Liability and Security consulting practice. This role is responsible for advancing technical excellence, ensuring consistency in investigative methodologies, supporting business development, and mentoring staff across the practice.

The position combines hands-on forensic consulting with enterprise-level leadership, including oversight of complex assignments, development of training programs, quality assurance, and collaboration with leadership to define practice standards, service offerings, and growth objectives. The Practice Leader serves as a subject matter expert in premises liability, human safety, and security-related matters, including litigation support and expert testimony.

This role operates with a high degree of independence while coordinating closely with the Practice Director, District Managers, and other Practice Leaders.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: (Bulleted)

  • Practice Leadership & Strategy
    • Provide technical leadership, guidance, and mentorship within the Premises Liability & Security practice.
    • Partner with Practice Director to define and implement practice standards, methodologies, and strategic goals.
    • Lead development and standardization of investigative approaches for personal injury, security, and human safety matters.
  • Technical Oversight & Project Execution
    • Oversee quality assurance and consistency of deliverables across the practice.
    • Conduct and oversee field investigations involving slip/trip/falls, security incidents, building conditions, and human injury.
    • Perform and/or supervise technical reviews of reports, analyses, and expert opinions.
    • Provide oversight and direction on large, complex, or high-exposure assignments.
    • Serve as a liaison between clients and the firm on technical matters.
  • Training, Mentorship, and Talent Development
    • Develop and deliver training programs related to premises liability, security, and human safety investigations.
    • Co-host monthly practice group round-table meetings and develop and present content for training topics.
    • Mentor and support consultants in technical development and report writing.
    • Assist with recruiting, interviewing, and evaluating candidates.
    • Provide input on employee performance evaluations and technical competency.
  • Business Development & Client Engagement
    • Support business development efforts through client meetings, presentations, and industry engagement.
    • Build and maintain strong client relationships across legal, insurance, and commercial sectors.
    • Collaborate with marketing to promote Premises Liability & Security services.
  • Research & Innovation
    • Lead or support research initiatives related to public and pedestrian safety, human factors, and injury prevention.
    • Stay current with applicable codes, standards, and emerging industry practices.
  • Expert Consulting & Litigation Support
    • Provide expert opinions, written reports, and testimony in litigation matters.
    • Analyze building codes, safety standards, and site conditions to determine causation and liability.
  • General Responsibilities
    • Perform investigations within area of expertise.
    • Coordinate with other Practice Leaders and leadership as needed.
    • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Requirements

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, EDUCATION and CERTIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, Architecture, Biomechanics, Human Factors, or related field (advanced degree preferred).
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in premises liability, safety, forensic investigations, or related field.
  • Demonstrated experience performing forensic investigations and technical reviews.
  • Experience with ADA, ASTM, ANSI, OSHA, and life safety codes.
  • Experience providing expert testimony in legal proceedings.
  • Ability to travel frequently for site investigations, client meetings, testimony, and internal leadership meetings.
  • Available for after-hours responsiveness.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Professional licensure (P.E., R.A., or similar).
  • CSP®, CPSI, or other relevant certifications.
  • Participation in industry committees or standards organizations.
  • Advanced degree in engineering, Architecture, Biomechanics, Human Factors, or related field.
  • Experience overseeing safety or risk mitigation.

  • Deep understanding of building codes, life safety requirements, and human safety principles.

  • Direct experience working with law firms, insurers, corporate clients, or government agencies.
  • Experience communicating with senior decision-makers, expert witnesses, and other stakeholder groups.
