POSITION SUMMARY:
The Mohs Histotech located in Wilmington, NC will play a pivotal role in preparing precise frozen tissue sections for Mohs micrographic surgery. This position requires meticulous technique, attention to detail, and collaboration with the surgical team to facilitate accurate pathological diagnosis and effective patient care.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Prepare and cut high-quality frozen tissue sections utilizing Mohs surgical techniques specific to micrographic surgery.
- Process, embed, and stain tissue specimens, ensuring optimal slide quality for surgical review.
- Maintain accurate documentation of all procedures and quality control logs in compliance with laboratory and regulatory standards.
- Manage and troubleshoot laboratory equipment, including cryostats and staining instruments.
- Ensure adherence to laboratory safety protocols and maintain a sterile working environment in compliance with OSHA and CLIA guidelines.
- Collaborate effectively with dermatologic surgeons and clinical staff to support smooth procedural workflow.
- Participate in ongoing education to stay current with the latest Mohs histotechnical techniques.
- Perform additional duties as assigned by supervisory or clinical leadership to support department operations.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Histotechnology or a related field is required.
- ASCP Histotechnologist (HTL) certification is preferred.
- Experience with Mohs micrographic surgery histotechnology strongly preferred.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent organizational skills.
- Effective communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
- Capacity to work independently and manage time efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
