The Transportation Buyer/Analyst is responsible for optimizing daily and strategic transportation operations through data-driven decision‑making. This role focuses on managing transportation sourcing events, analyzing freight cost data, coordinating shipment schedules, and developing efficient routes such as consolidations, multi stop deliveries and milk‑runs. The analyst will work closely with carriers, internal stakeholders, and cross‑functional supply chain teams to improve cost, service, and operational efficiency.

Requirements

KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

Transportation Sourcing & Carrier Management:

  • Lead or support transportation sourcing events (RFQs/RFPs), prepare bid packages, analyze carrier proposals, and recommend optimal carriers.
  • Negotiate freight rates and Service Level Agreements (SLAs) to secure capacity and competitive pricing.
  • Conduct market research to identify best-fit carriers and maintain up‑to‑date routing guides.
  • Review transportation contracts, rate sheets, and perform rate benchmarking.
  • Evaluate inbound and outbound freight quotes for multiple modes (LTL, FTL, etc.) and ensure accurate, competitive pricing.
  • Validate quoted rates against contracted rates and escalate discrepancies.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

 

Data Analysis & Optimization:

  • Analyze transportation performance metrics (cost‑per‑shipment, cost-per-pallet, on‑time delivery performance, FTL capacity utilization, damage rates etc.)
  • Identify cost‑reduction opportunities by analyzing transportation spending, mode selection, lane optimization, and accessorial charges.
  • Design optimized transportation routes, including consolidation programs and milk‑run schedules, to improve cost and service performance.
  • Maintain and update routing and cost data within TMS/ERP systems to ensure operational accuracy.
  • Conduct freight bill audits and identify billing discrepancies; manage claim processes as needed
  • Collaborate with external and internal stakeholders to assess and improve service levels.
  • Run simulations to optimize distribution capacity, map and structure.
  • Additional duties as assigned.

Compensation: $82,000+ depending on experience

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Business, Operations or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in logistics procurement and analysis
  • Experience with ERP systems (Infor-LN knowledge is preferred) and transportation management tools
  • Understanding of transportation management, processes, and systems is needed
  • Strong negotiation, communication, and analytical skills
