Description
We are seeking an experienced Automotive Technician – Electrical Specialist to diagnose, repair, and maintain advanced electrical, electronic, and multiplex systems on heavy equipment and medium/heavy‑duty trucks. This role functions as the shop’s electrical subject matter expert (SME), ensuring fleet reliability, uptime, and safety compliance.
Requirements
Electrical Diagnostics & Repair
Diagnose and repair 12V/24V electrical systems.
Troubleshoot CAN bus and multiplex communication faults.
Identify parasitic draws, voltage drops, and intermittent electrical issues.
Repair wiring harnesses, connectors, relays, and sensors.
Program/reflash ECMs, TCMs, BCMs, and other modules.
Use OEM diagnostic software and scan tools.
Charging, Starting & Power Systems
Diagnose alternators, starters, batteries, and power distribution modules.
Perform load testing and voltage analysis.
Troubleshoot auxiliary power systems, PTO controls, lift gates, and hydraulic electronic systems.
Telematics & Technology Integration
Install and support telematics devices (GPS, cameras, fleet tracking).
Troubleshoot driver‑facing cameras and audio alerts.
Support fleet software integrations and maintain ELDs.
Heavy Equipment & Truck Electrical Systems
Service DOT‑compliant lighting systems and LED retrofits.
Repair ABS and brake electronics.
Diagnose DEF/emissions sensors and aftertreatment systems.
Support HVAC electrical troubleshooting.
Work on hydraulic‑over‑electric control systems.
Preventative Maintenance & Documentation
Conduct electrical components of PM inspections.
Identify early‑stage electrical failures.
Accurately document diagnostics, labor, and parts.
Provide root‑cause analysis and support fleet reliability reporting.
Required Qualifications
3–7+ years of heavy‑duty truck or heavy equipment repair experience.
Strong electrical and advanced diagnostic skills.
Experience with multiplex/CAN systems.
Proficiency with DMMs, oscilloscopes, and diagnostic software.
Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics.
Valid driver’s license (CDL preferred).
Ability to lift 50+ lbs and work in shop/field environments.
Must possess their own tools and demonstrate proficiency in using a multimeter for continuity testing.
Additionally, experience in wiring strobes, understanding how to wire a relay, and familiarity with building wiring harnesses would be advantageous.
Preferred Qualifications
ASE T‑Series certifications.
OEM certifications (Cummins, CAT, Detroit, etc.).
Experience with Cummins Insite, CAT ET, Detroit DiagnosticLink.
Experience with telematics platforms (Tenna, Geotab, Samsara).
CDL Class A or B.
Hydraulic and pneumatic system experience.
