Position Overview
Crosstown Plumbing is a successful plumbing supply company located in East Orange, NJ. We have an exciting opportunity for an Accounting Manager who will be responsible for overseeing all accounting and financial operations for our busy retail and wholesale business. This role manages the full accounting cycle, ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining an effective internal control environment, and supporting the overall financial health of the company.
The Accounting Manager serves as the key financial leader, handling monthly close processes, reconciliations, accounts payable and receivable oversight, compliance, and broader financial management responsibilities. This is a hands-on position in a fast-paced, casual atmosphere that requires someone who can keep up with the daily demands of a high-volume supply business. This position requires a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, and organizational skills.
Primary Responsibilities
Monthly Close & Financial Reporting
• Execute monthly close process, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
• Prepare and review monthly financial statements and reports
• Perform account reconciliations including bank accounts, credit cards, and general ledger accounts
• Monitor cash flow and maintain financial controls
• Prepare and present financial metrics and reports to senior management, providing actionable insights
Accounts Payable & Receivable
· Lead and supervise the Accounting Department, including Financial, Accounts Payable, and Credit & Collections teams
• Oversee accounting functions and provide coverage when department employees are absent
• Maintain vendor relationships and payment schedules
• Ensure timely processing of invoices and customer payments
• Review and approve vendor payments
Daily Operations
• Reconcile daily sales transactions and cash receipts
• Maintain accurate records of all financial transactions
• Ensure sufficient cash register coverage during all shifts to maintain accurate cash handling
• Create, update, and maintain standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all key finance functions
Compliance & External Relations
• Handle sales tax compliance and reporting for New Jersey
• Collaborate with the external CPA firm to coordinate year-end audits, tax provisions, and tax filings
• Implement and maintain accounting procedures and internal controls
• Ensure compliance with GAAP and accounting best practices
• Maintain and negotiate the company's Insurance Program
• Maintain Banking Relationships
• Maintain Vehicle Registrations
• All personnel may be required to perform duties outside of their normal responsibilities from time to time as needed
Work Environment & Physical Requirements
• In-office position in a casual retail atmosphere
• Monday through Friday business hours
• Hands-on role with direct interaction with sales counter and management team
• Frequent computer use
• Ability to lift and carry up to 15 pounds occasionally
• May require extended hours during month-end close or peak workloads
Requirements
Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (or equivalent experience)
• Minimum of 3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in an Accounting Manager or similar role
• Strong knowledge of GAAP and accounting principles
• Proficiency in ERP accounting software
• Advanced Excel and Word skills
• Solid understanding of month-end close processes and reconciliations
• Knowledge of sales tax regulations
• Leadership abilities with experience in managing and mentoring accounting teams
• Excellent attention to detail and organizational skills
• Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
• Strong problem-solving and analytical abilities
• Must be able to keep up with a fast-paced workload
• Strong communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with all departments
Preferred
• Experience with inventory accounting and cost accounting
• Supervisory experience
• CPA or CMA certification
• Experience in plumbing, HVAC, or building supply industry
• Experience with external audits and tax filings
