POSITION DESCRIPTION

St. Catherine's School is an Episcopal day school in Richmond, Virginia, founded in 1890 enrolling roughly 950 girls age 3 through grade 12. POSITION OVERVIEW

The Director is responsible for the overall planning, staffing, and management of the After School Program serving St. Catherine’s students in grades JK-4. This program connects girls with a variety of enrichment classes and activities.

Supervisor: Head of Lower School and Early Childhood

Supervisory Responsibilities:  Instructors, staff and vendors

Position Status: Full time, exempt, 10-month schedule

Hours of Work: Standard Work Week, Hours 10:30am - 6:30pm

  

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Manage the program registration process
  • Develop, monitor, and maintain the program budget
  • Create, update, and manage marketing and informational materials for push pages, flyers, Papers for Parents, and the public SaintsNet page
  • Maintain and regularly update the SaintsNet web page
  • Ensure timely publication of current information regarding projects, classes, and special events
  • Oversee student activities content, including photos and highlights
  • Maintain accurate operating hours and essential program information
  • Update and manage faculty biographies
  • Prepare and distribute a monthly communication email to parents
  • Develop, implement, and maintain program policies and procedures, including safety and health guidelines and parent communication protocols
  • Create and maintain an annual enrichment schedule organized by trimester
  • Supervise instructors and staff; coordinate enrichment class teachers and external vendors
  • Provide administrative support, including sign-out procedures, attendance tracking, and enrichment class rosters
  • Research and develop age-appropriate daily activities for each student group
  • Identify and research opportunities to expand and enhance the program
  • Assist with program setup and cleanup as needed
  • Order and manage supplies necessary for students and staff
  • Coordinate with Assistant Head of  Early Childhood to ensure all religiously-exempt childcare program requirements are met and maintained consistently (for example, Department of Social Services)

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to sit; stand; walk; use hands to manipulate, handle and feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; climb stairs; balance;  stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl; talk and hear; engage in moderately strenuous physical activity both indoors and out; and smell. The employee may occasionally lift or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

Travel is not a requirement for this role.

Requirements

REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education or equivalent work experience required; Minimum of 3–5 years of experience in after-school programming, enrichment programs, or Lower School education, including leadership or supervisory experience
  • Strong understanding of child development, age-appropriate enrichment, and best practices for student safety and well-being
  • Proven ability to manage budgets, registration processes, and operational logistics
  • Experience supervising, mentoring, and evaluating faculty, staff, and enrichment instructors
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills with strong attention to detail
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience communicating effectively with parents and school leadership
  • Proficiency with educational technology platforms, websites, and content management systems (e.g., school portals, registration software)
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute engaging enrichment opportunities across academic, athletic, artistic, and social-emotional domains
  • Commitment to the school’s mission, values, and community culture
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment while maintaining a high level of professionalism
  • Current CPR/First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain upon hire)
