Description
Our team is growing, and we’re looking for a versatile Senior Backend Engineer - Claims (m/f/d) to join our cross-functional Claims Squad. As an InsurTech provider, the claims settlement process sits at the heart of our customer experience. This role is located in a strategically critical team: you will help build the technical foundation that makes claims processing fast, transparent, and delightful for customers and internal stakeholders alike. You will design and build solutions involving APIs, backend logic and AI-augmented processing, ensuring that our architecture and code base supports the product and company goals in a sustainable fashion. Success in this role requires a high level of ownership across the entire software delivery lifecycle, the ability to transform intricate business logic into scalable and performant code, and a solid understanding of distributed systems. The best candidates blend software craftsmanship, experience delivering AI-augmented solutions and a cloud-native mindset, and take their motivation from using technology to create an amazing customer experience.
Responsibilities:
- Build a solid and scalable claims automation architecture aligned with long-term business and product goals, involving backend logic, AI components and cloud infrastructure.
- Acquire a deep understanding of the claims business domain and map it into maintainable code and systems that are easy to evolve.
- Identify code that requires renewal and help your team transform systems running under high utilization.
- Provide technical guidance and help raise the bar for engineering quality within the squad.
- Support your team to maintain high system reliability and performance, fostering a “you build it, you run it” mindset grounded in end-to-end ownership.
- Ensure the systems of your team meet security and compliance requirements by promoting security as a first-class citizen.
- Influence your team’s software delivery practices, improving tooling and automation to increase team productivity.
- Collaborate closely with Product, Design and stakeholders of your team to ensure solutions are aligned with business and customer needs.

Essentials:
- 4+ years of experience as a software engineer, with a focus on web application backends.
- Strong analytical and architectural skills applied to complex, domain-driven systems.
- Solid understanding of distributed systems and software design best practices.
- Experience evolving technical foundations in a fast-growing environment.
- Hands-on experience building applications on public cloud platforms (AWS preferred).
- Excellent domain modeling and relational database design skills.
- Experience designing and operating asynchronous processing systems.
- Experience designing, evolving, and maintaining RESTful APIs.
- Proficiency in more than one programming language, ideally including Ruby.
- Experience working with Ruby on Rails or the willingness to quickly ramp up.
- Proven ownership of production systems, including observability, incident response, post-mortems, and continuous improvement.
- Experience working in agile, cross-functional teams together with product, frontend, and quality engineering.
- Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.
Extra:
Experience with integrating AI into customer-facing production systems.
Experience building products in the context of insurance, banking or logistics.
Experience in process automation architecture.
