The Federal Bureau of Prisons is seeking a qualified Phlebotomist to provide essential medical laboratory services for the adult in custody (AIC) population at FTC Oklahoma City. This role involves clinical specimen collection, administrative record-keeping, and patient management within a secure correctional environment.


Location: Federal Transfer Center (FTC) Oklahoma City, OK 
Schedule: 32 hours/week (Mon–Thu, 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.)

Key Responsibilities

Specimen Collection & Processing: Perform blood draws and other laboratory studies; organize, process, and package specimens for transport to BOP or contract reference labs.
Clinical Support: Assist medical staff (Physicians, PAs, and Nurses) with patient flow by measuring vital signs/weight and scanning results into the Bureau Electronic Medical Record (BEMR).
Administrative Oversight: Maintain the Laboratory Procedure Manual, log results, ensure proper documentation of lab requests, and follow up on pending reports.
Compliance & Policy: Assist the Health Service Administrator (HSA) with CLIA re-certification, equipment maintenance, and the implementation of laboratory program policies.
Safety & Security: Adhere to all institutional security regulations, maintain professional boundaries with the AIC population, and report any rule infractions to supervisors.

Qualifications & Requirements

Certification: Must hold a valid certification in the State of Oklahoma as a Phlebotomist, Medical Assistant, Laboratory Assistant, or EMT.
Life Safety: Current BLS (American Heart Association or Red Cross).
Health Standards: Must be free of communicable diseases and willing to undergo TB testing or provide proof of immunity.

Experience

·       Proven experience in specimen collection, packaging, and shipment.
·       Prior experience working in a correctional setting is required.
 
Work Environment & Physical Demands

Setting: Health Service Department within a federal correctional facility.
Security: Frequent, unsupervised contact with inmates. Candidates must undergo institution familiarization orientation and adhere to strict security and privacy (Privacy Act of 1974) protocols.
