Description
We are hiring a licensed Lead Water Treatment Plant Operator to support full-service operations and maintenance of a new public water system in Midland County. This system includes groundwater wells, a centralized reverse osmosis (RO) treatment facility, storage, pumping, and distribution infrastructure.
This role carries real responsibility. The utility district has no in-house operations staff. You and your team will be accountable for continuous operation, regulatory compliance, and emergency response.
If you are not comfortable being on the hook for system performance and compliance, this is not the job for you.
Operations (24/7 Coverage)
- Continuous system monitoring, alarm response, and corrective action
- On-call emergency response at any hour
- Pressure, water quality, and system performance monitoring
Daily Operations
- Operate groundwater wells, RO membranes, chemical feed systems
- Manage storage tanks, booster pumps, and pressure zones
- Adjust treatment processes as required
Regulatory Compliance
- Maintain full TCEQ Chapter 290 compliance
- Sampling, reporting, disinfection residual tracking
- RO monitoring and operational reporting
Maintenance
- Preventive and corrective maintenance:
- Valve exercising, pump maintenance, membrane monitoring
Documentation & Reporting
- Daily operational logs
- Monthly and annual compliance reports
- Maintenance logs and inventory tracking
- Upload all required documentation weekly to SharePoint
Communication & Incident Response
- Immediate notification to Utility District management for:
- Water quality issues
- Pressure loss
- Compliance risks
- Emergency issues require immediate phone notification
- Receive and document customer complaints and report same day
Requirements
Licensing
- Texas Class B Water Operator license (required for Lead Operator)
- Additional Class C operators available for full coverage
Experience
- Minimum 5 years of water system operations experience, OR
- Demonstrated expertise operating:
- Groundwater systems
- RO treatment facilities
- Distribution systems
Regulatory Knowledge
- Working knowledge of:
- TCEQ rules and reporting
- Groundwater treatment
- RO system operations
