The Driver Check-In / Transportation Clerk at McLane Global is responsible for coordinating inbound and outbound transportation activities by checking in drivers, verifying shipping documentation, and ensuring timely dock assignments. This role serves as a key point of contact between drivers, warehouse staff, and transportation providers to maintain smooth yard and dock operations.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Greet and check in all inbound and outbound drivers in a professional manner
- Verify driver credentials, load information, bills of lading, and appointment times
- Assign dock doors or yard locations according to schedule and availability
- Enter and update shipment data in the Transportation Management System (TMS), WMS, or yard management system
- Communicate load status, delays, or issues to warehouse, shipping, and transportation teams
- Monitor driver wait times and escalate issues as needed
- Ensure compliance with site safety, security, and DOT regulations
- Maintain accurate records of arrivals, departures, and documentation
- Coordinate with yard jockeys or warehouse staff for trailer movements
- Answer phones, emails, and radios related to transportation operations
- Perform general clerical duties such as filing, scanning, and report generation
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required
- 3+ year experience in transportation, logistics, warehouse, or clerical role preferred
- Familiarity with shipping documents (BOLs, delivery receipts, manifests)
- Basic computer skills and experience with data entry
- Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment
- Strong communication and customer service skills
- Attention to detail and organizational skills
