Full-Time Pastry Cook
General Coffee Co. | Supporting Ome Caterers, The Morris Proper & The Maple
Whippany, NJ
About the Role
We are seeking a talented, reliable and detail-driven full-time Pastry Cook to join our growing team at General Coffee Co. This position will be primarily focused on daily pastry production for our busy coffee shop, while also providing pastry support for our sister brands; Ome Caterers, The Morris Proper and The Maple, as business demand requires.
This role works directly under the leadership of our Executive Chef team and Commissary Director, who will provide core formulas, systems and production structure. The ideal candidate is eager to learn, execute at a high level and grow into a leadership role over time, with the opportunity to begin developing their own recipes and eventually help lead the pastry department.
Requirements
What You’ll Do:
, Prepare and bake a full range of fresh pastries daily using established formulas and production systems, including quick breads, cookies, cakes, pies, choux, sweet breads, laminated doughs and more.
Execute consistent, high-quality pastry production with exceptional attention to detail.
Work closely with the Executive Chef team to learn systems, recipes and operational standards, with the opportunity to contribute creative input as skills grow.
Assist in the development of seasonal and limited-time offerings, learning the full R&D-to-execution process.
Maintain the highest standards of food quality, cleanliness, organization and presentation.
Order ingredients, track usage and manage weekly pastry inventory with accurate documentation.
Support menu execution and recipe testing for General Coffee Co and catering programs.
Provide pastry support for sister companies (Ome Caterers, The Morris Proper, and The Maple) based on event volume and operational needs.
Occasionally assist with delivering product to General Coffee Co using a company vehicle.
Follow all food safety, sanitation and kitchen SOPs.
Demonstrate leadership qualities with the expectation of growing into a future Pastry Lead.
Schedule, Availability and Compensation
- 4:00 AM start time
- 5 days per week, including 1 weekend day
- 35 to 40 hours per week
- $27.00 per hour
Base schedule, Tuesday thru Saturday
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a Pastry Cook in a professional kitchen.
- Working knowledge of core pastry techniques.
- Ability to execute structured formulas with precision.
- Coachable mindset with excitement for long-term growth.
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, hands-on, entrepreneurial kitchen environment.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a positive attitude.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and remain on your feet for extended periods.
- Valid driver’s license and clean driving record required due to occasional deliveries using a company vehicle.
