Technical Manager

PURPOSE:

  • The plant technical organization consists of the following departments: Product & Process Engineering, and Tendering.
  • The Plant Technical Manager leads and develops the plant technical organization with the goal of maximizing customer satisfaction, ensuring and optimizing product quality, while supporting competitivness and continuous improvement.
  • This means :
    • Being responsible for people development and operational performance.
    • Understanding the role of this department in the business and developing relevant strategy and objectives.
  • Promoting a customer focus culture in operations, while being attached to a constant respect of the law, plant environment protection and Nexans local image.

 

AREAS OF RESPONSIBLITY:

  • Process engineering ensures the consistency of the actions and initiatives related to process: process control development, process continuous improvement, process optimization breakthrough. It drives process continuous improvement activities, with the view to reduce manufacturing variance and improve competitiveness, and participates to industrial benchmark activities.
  • Provide Tender Production cost for the Factory, including relevant investments.
  • Keep Plant factory cost standards up to date.
  • Propose investments and solutions in order to improve equipment capability and to produce new projects; is part of the specification preparation; is part of the team in charge of installation, commissioning, and ramp up of new equipment.
  • Coordinate with Technical and R&D departments and relevant stakeholders qualification activities for new materials, new suppliers and new designs.
  • Product evaluation process, product engineering to establish product specification.
  • Participates in design reviews and handover engineering/manufacturing meetings and approves cable specifications.
  • Ensures proper identification of industrial risks and that mitigating actions are in place.
  • Supports the production team by driving or facilitating non conformities analysis and problem solving.
  • Drives alert system for critical issues, including AMS; checks that actions are implemented and lessons learned are integrated. 
  • Ensures that the organization has the right skills and competences in place, and have a development plan for each member of the plant technical organization.

 

EXPECTED RESULTS:

  • Delivers and secures objectives set by Plant Manager
  • Deliver objectives according to targets set by SLS management.
  • Industrial risks are kept under control.
  • Overall contribution to the SLS P&L: Competiiveness (Manufacturing Variance, Production Costs and SMP)

REQUESTED COMPETENCIES & QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Strong Leadership skills (Coaching, influencing, leadership, motivating)
  • Business acumen and understanding of Industrial KPIs
  • Communication skills and knowledge (interpersonal skills, listening, oral communication, presentation, questioning, reading comprehension, written communication)
  • Abilities to understand and act according to intercultural differences
  • Results Driven
  • Wide exposure to different materials, processes and corresponding tools & methods
  • Wide exposure to preventive & analysis tools: 8D, analysis methods ( Ishikawa, …) ,FMEA, SPC
  • MSc or PhD, with > 5-10 years technical / engineering / industrial experience in the cable industry
  • Language: English fluent
