Research Product Team Lead
Main purpose
Leading a research product team or multiple research product teams within CVRI (cardiovascular, renal and immunology)
Building and guiding a fit-for-purpose research product team (RPT) in setting the vision, strategic direction and ensuring implementation of an aligned strategy across R&D and Pharma capability pools
in line with the overall portfolio strategy, with accountability from initiation of a product program (D1) through confirmation of preclinical candidate (PCC).

Key tasks & Responsibilities
- Is responsible for composing, shaping and maintaining a motivated and high performing fit-for-purpose research product team(s) that flexibly evolve with the project needs
- Leads the discovery of preclinical candidates from program initiation (D1) to preclinical candidate confirmation (PCC) across different therapeutic areas (TA) in line with research and portfolio
- Is accountable for efficient research product program planning, lean and fast execution
- Drive and continuously develop research product team strategy, vision and purpose to validate the scientific hypothesis and develop a high value, innovative preclinical candidate/ product profile
- Focus the product team to develop and conduct critical experiments that lead to meaningful decisions for a differentiated product
- Drives strategic and quality decision making together with the cross functional RPT
- Integrate data from various sources (e.g., data from preclinical and clinical studies, animal models, use of AI/ML approaches) to form a holistic evidence base for the asset
- Negotiate and secure resources from RD & Pharma capability clusters to execute on product mission and ensure optimal resourcing and effectiveness (both internal as well as external resources as needed)
- Ensures appropriate consultation of experts (internal & external) and engage with wider disease community to drive and ensure scientific, technical and operational excellence, i.e., by peer-to-peer review, sounding boards, advisory boards etc.
- Acts as a VACC leader holding team members accountable for their deliverables
- Is vested with far-reaching program-related decision powers, and is responsible for the financial steering of product budget(s) as allocated by the respective governance (financial frame)
- Is responsible for driving high-quality decision making by creating outcome scenarios at data inflection points and clear presentation of key evidence to the appropriate governance bodies
- Integrates data from various sources e.g. from clinical studies, animal models and use of AI/ML approaches to form a holistic view of the asset
- Actively participates in product team leader and disease communities to exchange and leverage collective experiences and knowledge to accelerate programs
- Demonstrates, credibly embodies and roles models VACC leadership being a(n):

- Qualifications & Competencies
- PhD, MD and/or PharmD with long term + 7 years) relevant professional and academic experience of which several years of experience should be related to drug discovery and development in Cardiology, Nephrology, Immunology
- Deep technical and scientific expertise and experience as well as disease understanding in respective focus areas
- +5 years experience in leading and managing cross-functional global discovery teams
- Successful track record of advancing programs through early discovery into preclinical development
- Deep understanding of discovery and translational research, experience in preclinical and early clinical development is of advantage, in the respective area and proven experience in drug discovery in respective research area and modality
- Experience in steering and managing research budgets
- Superb situational leadership skills (both interpersonal and organizational) to build high-performance, productive teams in highly matrixed environment as well as strong mentoring and coaching capabilities, to unlock peak performance in research product team members and peers
- A memorable and inclusive leader who models the new ways of working, is purpose driven and thrives in change and ambiguity

- Fluency in English is essential. Command of a second major European language, ideally German.
