Purpose

  • As a Trade Finance Specialist, you will manage the full lifecycle of SBM projects—from tendering through execution and monitoring—across a diverse product portfolio (FPSOs, buoys, installation, and after-sales). You will ensure seamless issuance and administration of trade finance instruments, maintain accurate reporting, and safeguard compliance. Operating autonomously, you will uphold the integrity of financial processes and documentation while engaging stakeholders globally. Your role includes mentoring junior team members and driving continuous improvement of departmental standards. This position requires strong collaboration with internal teams and external partners in an international environment spanning Europe, the Americas, and Asia

Responsibilities

  • Commercial:
    Act as the primary point of contact for all trade finance instruments, managing processes end-to-end. Build and maintain a strong internal network, including key decision-makers.
    Define acceptable wording for trade finance instruments and ensure alignment in vendor and client contracts to optimize SBM’s position.
    Coordinate closely with Contract Management and Commercial Legal for reviews.
    Advise on guarantees in SBM’s favor. Support Supply Chain in framing risk appetite
  • Structuration:
    Lead negotiation and management of bilateral and syndicated credit lines and guarantee facility agreements, ensuring deep understanding of clauses and risk implications.
    Coordinate with Corporate Finance and Legal for complex agreements.
    Design optimal structures and select providers based on capacity and appetite.
    Interface with the wider Treasury community to allocate lines efficiently across guarantees, project/corporate financings, hedges, and short-term financing.
  • Execution:
    Manage issuance, amendment, and termination of trade finance instruments (bank guarantees, sureties, standby and commercial letters of credit).
    Ensure accurate recording in the Trade Finance Management System and timely payment of commissions.
    Prepare quarterly reporting and dashboards for trade finance activities, including ALM and presentations.
  • Process & Quality Improvement: 
    Leverage in-house systems expertise to streamline issuance and automate communications and payments.
    Promote best practices to enhance efficiency, accuracy, and compliance in trade finance operations.
  • Team Development:
    Coach and support junior team members, fostering their development toward autonomy.
    Encourage a culture of excellence, accountability, and collaboration. 

 

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree (University or "Haute Ecole Spécialisée" (HES)) in Finance, Economics, Business Administration, or related field.
  • Master’s degree and/or relevant certifications (CFA, ACT, LMA training) are strong assets. 

Experience

  • Minimum 6 years of experience in banking, corporate treasury, finance, or related roles.
  • Strong financial acumen and ability to manage complex trade finance structures independently.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Treasury and Trade Finance Management Systems is a plus.
  • English fluency required; French desirable.
  • Comfortable working in an international, multicultural environment.
  • High attention to detail and strict adherence to compliance requirements.
