Position Summary
The Safety & Fleet Manager is responsible for overseeing safety protocols and managing the day-to-day operations of the company’s service vehicle fleet. This role is essential in minimizing risk, enhancing fleet efficiency, ensuring regulatory compliance, and fostering a safety-first culture across HVAC, electrical, and plumbing operations.
Key Responsibilities
Fleet Management
- Vehicle Oversight: Manage the company’s service vehicles, ensuring timely maintenance and minimizing costly breakdowns.
- Efficient Deployment: Oversee vehicle scheduling and usage to maximize efficiency and minimize technician downtime.
- Fuel & Telematics Management: Track fuel usage, maintenance costs, and implement GPS/telematics for route optimization and safe driving practices.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure all vehicles are compliant with local, state, and federal laws, including inspections, emissions, insurance, and licensing.
Safety & Compliance
- Employee Safety Training: Design and lead training programs for safe driving, equipment handling, and jobsite procedures.
- Regulatory Compliance: Maintain adherence to OSHA, DOT, FMCSA, and other safety standards, ensuring documentation is accurate and up to date.
- Incident Prevention & Reporting: Establish protocols for incident reporting and investigations. Identify root causes and implement corrective actions.
- Jobsite Monitoring: Promote and ensure safe practices on job sites, including proper use of PPE and identifying hazardous situations.
Cost Control & Operational Efficiency
- Fleet Budgeting: Manage vehicle budgets, including purchases, leases, fuel, and maintenance.
- Insurance & Risk Management: Partner with insurers to reduce premiums through improved safety and risk reduction strategies.
- Performance Metrics: Develop and track KPIs (e.g., fuel efficiency, maintenance cost per mile, safety incident rates, training compliance).
Requirements
- Strong knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and FMCSA regulations
- Proven experience in fleet management, including maintenance, telematics, and cost control
- Background in creating and enforcing safety programs
- Analytical skills to evaluate performance data and improve operations
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record
- Comfortable working outdoors and with a flexible schedule
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Basic computer skills
