The Position

Tasks & responsibilities 

  • As Senior Legal Counsel M&A you will provide strategic legal advice to senior management and project leadership throughout the entire M&A process.  
  • You will structure, draft and negotiate M&A transaction documentation across all of Boehringer Ingelheim's businesses globally in close collaboration with the M&A function and other internal legal colleagues, also leading teams of external legal professionals.
  • Due to the global reach of Boehringer Ingelheim's acquisitions and divestitures focus, you will most of the time collaborate across borders.
  • You will select and manage outside counsel in the relevant jurisdictions always with a view on quality, speed and efficiency.
  • You will partner-up and collaborate closely with internal colleagues in the target jurisdiction.
  • Furthermore, you will leverage your expertise acquired through the transaction phase for the preparation of the integration of the target into the Boehringer Ingelheim group of companies.
  • Taking over a leading role, you will work with a team of international lawyers in relevant matters on a global scale.

Requirements 

  • Qualification as lawyer or qualified attorney with admission to the bar (2nd State Examination or equivalent)
  • Extensive relevant working experience in an external law firm and/or as inhouse lawyer with international exposure in daily business
  • Strong expertise in M&A as well as in corporate law and governance
  • High level of strategic and business understanding, preferably in the pharma, biotech or life sciences industry, with the ability to provide strategic legal advice in the highly dynamic area of M&A
  • Strong communication skills are key, as well as the capability of steering and/or leading legal matters in cross-functional and/or international settings
  • Project leadership competencies to lead cross-functional initiatives paired with strategic thinking and solution oriented mindset
  • Business fluent in English
