Your impact

Would you like to be managing Engineering teams, delivering cutting-edge UK-sovereign LDEW technology and products in a world-class product design and manufacturing environment? This is a unique opportunity to be accountable for Engineering delivery of a new High-Power Fibre Amplifier (HPFA) product line into the marketplace, working with and managing highly-skilled and experienced Engineering teams. This role also offers the opportunity to be involved in, and leading, continuous-improvement initiatives across the wider Advanced Targeting business sector.

As Project Engineering Manager for HPFA, you will…

  • work closely with HPFA Chief Engineer to define HPFA development and manufacturing strategies
  • mentor, line-manage and be a role model for HPFA Project Engineering Lead
  • ensure all aspects of engineering activity (including design, qualification, production readiness, test, support) are planned, resourced, executed and delivered to schedule, cost and quality in accordance with company processes
  • collaborate with customers and an international supply chain, with occasionally travel required
  • be accountable for HPFA Engineering planning, resourcing, milestones and lifecycle management
  • support business-winning activities for HPFA including bids and proposals
  • be responsible for status reporting to LDEW Programme Manager and Head of Engineering Projects
  • manage Engineering risks and priorities across the HPFA product area
  • ensure the HPFA Engineering teams operate in a safe and inclusive environment
  • be expected to mainly work in the office, with opportunity for occasional working from home

What you’ll bring

You really must have…

  • extensive experience managing multi-disciplinary engineering teams across a wide range of product life cycle stages (requirements, design, qualification, production, support)
  • broad understanding and experience of managing Engineering product development process including product safety and product verification
  • experience and personal effectiveness in collaborating with other business functions (Project Management, Procurement, Manufacturing) and technical specialists outside own domain
  • experience and personal effectiveness working with external customers
  • experience and excellence in people management and team leadership
  • proven ability to adapt to changing circumstances and requirements
  • a first-degree STEM qualification or equivalent recognised by professional accreditation scheme

It would be great if you had…:

  • understanding and experience of formal problem-solving techniques
  • domain knowledge in electro-optical systems or lasers
  • experience as an independent reviewer or assessor for product design reviews
