About the Department

Responsible for the oversight, programming, staffing, and maintenance of assigned municipal aquatic facility. Assists with the scheduling of day-to-day work activities to provide optimum efficiency, safety, and productivity. Work is performed under limited supervision with considerable latitude in the use of initiative and independent judgement. Position relies on experience and exercises independent judgment to determine the best approach by using and interpreting policies and procedures.

Position Duties

High school diploma or GED. Must pass United States Lifesaving Association (USLA) or equivalent agency’s training and requirements, or successful completion of training academy within 3 months of hire. Must pass bi-annual requalification by swimming 500 meters in 10 minutes or less. Must have Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), Automated External Defibrillator (AED).

Must have National Incident Management System (NIMS) certification (level to be determined by job classification requirements) or obtain within one year of employment. Must have a valid Florida Driver's license with a satisfactory driving record throughout employment. Must have American Red Cross Lifeguard, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, Certified Pool Operator and/or Aquatic Facility Operator certifications. American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor, American Red Cross Lifeguard Management, American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor Trainer, American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor Trainer, and Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) or Executive (CPRE) designations preferred.
