About the Department
Under general supervision of the Dean of the Health Sciences Division or the program coordinator within that Division, the faculty member teaches assigned class loads and serves as faculty advisor according to the rules and procedures of the College. The faculty member will work at least 40 hours per week including instructing courses, maintaining posted office hours, evaluating student work, preparing for the courses, and fulfilling other duties as needed. This position will be a nine 9mo + a three 3mo position.
Salary is determined by verified degree:
- BSN $53,496 (9 MO) + $17,832 (3 MO)
- MSN $56,061 (9 MO) + $18,687 (3 MO)
Position Duties
Provides quality instruction and teaches assigned class loads, including class, lab, clinical, and online as directed, according to MCC Faculty Workload Policy. Schedule may include evenings and/or weekends.
Teach classes at MCC approved locations, including local high schools, Avery Learning Center, and Yancey Learning Center
Use methods of instruction and teaching techniques that are appropriate to fulfill course goals, objectives, and learning outcomes
Serves as a faculty advisor to students of the college
Assists students outside of scheduled class times as needed, including the Student Support Center upon student request
Weekly reporting of grades and attendance in college systems throughout the semester
Submit Early Alerts and Administrative Withdrawals as outlined in MCC procedures
Develops and maintains course syllabi
Participates in course development and course revision processes for the department
Furnishes all data and reports accurately according to deadlines set by the Instructional Services Division and the Academic Calendar. These would include, but not be limited to:
o Semester workload sheet
o Course syllabi, following the format given by the college
o Attendance Reporting
o Final grades
o Student Learning Outcome documentationAttends faculty and unit meetings, and workshops as scheduled
Maintains professional and technical knowledge through professional development opportunities
Actively participates in the faculty evaluation process
Notifies the direct supervisor of any absences or alterations in the class schedule in advance and in writing. Complete Leave forms according to MCC Policy.
Mentors adjunct faculty as assigned by the area supervisor
Participates in graduation, priority registration, and final registration, and is available for student orientations as requested
Participates in student recruitment activities
Participates in assigned committees and task forces
Assist in the inventory process for equipment and supplies, as directed by the College’s Business Office
Work and collaborate with Student Services to support student success in classes
Provide accessible instruction to students with disabilities as directed by Counseling and Disability Services
Continual support of the College’s mission, vision, and values as stated in plans, policies, and procedures
Assists Director of Nursing and program coordinator in assuring compliance with the North Carolina Board of Nursing (NCBON) regulations and participating in candidacy requirements and accreditation standards of the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN).
Complies with NCBON teaching/learning requirements and maintains evidence-based practice nursing knowledge and nursing education best-practice strategies through reading professional publications, attending workshops and conferences as appropriate.
Works with clinical coordinator and Director of Nursing in long-range program planning and assists with coordination of clinical placements with consideration of the requirements and policies and procedures of each of these facilities regarding student participation.

Works with nursing instructors in course and/or curriculum planning/revision with emphasis on evidence-based nursing practice and research, and incorporation of standards from the following bodies:

o Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN)Participates in collection, recording, and reporting of data related to program, including admission/retention rates, course evaluations and clinical evaluations from students, feedback from clinical facilities, graduation and employer surveys, NCLEX success rates for 1st-time testers; and rates of students’ enrollment in higher degree programs, college program review, NCBON Program Descriptive Report, and program self-studies for accreditation processes, and grant-writing endeavors.
Monitors documentation of professional competence of nursing instructors in the program, including licensure, evidence of professional competence in specialty areas of nursing practice, and professional competence in nursing education.
Carries out special assignments at the request of the Division Dean, or committee.

Minimum Qualifications
Education: Holds a current unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina and holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing.
Experience: One (1) academic year of full-time teaching experience in a nursing program or as required by the North Carolina Board of Nursing; and a minimum of (2) calendar years prior full-time employment or the equivalent in clinical nursing practice as a registered nurse.
License(s) Required: Holds a current, unrestricted license to practice as a registered nurse in North Carolina.
Other Qualifications
A Master’s Degree in Nursing is preferred.
