Wachter is accepting a detail-oriented and experienced Corporate/Payroll Tax Specialist to join our finance team in the Lenexa, KS office. The ideal candidate will be responsible for managing and reviewing complex tax returns, ensuring compliance with federal, state, and local tax regulations, and providing strategic tax planning to support the company's financial goals. This role requires strong analytical skills, up-to-date tax knowledge, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a fast-paced environment.

  • Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Prepare/maintain supporting tax work-papers/documentation;review and file federal, state, and local income tax returns for individuals, corporations, partnerships, and other entities.
  • Review and approve weekly, bi-weekly, monthly, and quarterly payroll tax compliance filings prepared by third-party payroll service for accuracy and completeness.
  • Research and interpret tax laws and regulations to ensure compliance and identify tax-saving opportunities.
  • Lead and support tax audits, inquiries, and notices from taxing authorities.
  • Maintain and reconcile tax general ledger accounts.
  • Collaborate with external tax advisors and internal stakeholders to address complex tax issues.
  • Stay current with changes in tax laws and regulations that may impact the company's operations and planning strategies.
  • Provide mentorship and guidance to junior tax/accounting staff or interns.
  • Contribute to process improvements and system enhancements to increase tax compliance efficiency.
  • Experience with international tax issues or transfer pricing is a plus.


  • Skills and Education:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (Master’s in Taxation is a plus).
  • CPA certification required.
  • 5–7 years of progressive tax experience in public accounting or a corporate tax department.
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local tax codes and regulations.
  • Experience with relevant tax software, third-party payroll providers and accounting systems.
  • Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple deadlines and prioritize effectively.
  • Experience using DayForce is a plus.
