Description

The Senior Network Engineer is a vital and strategic role, serving as the technical cornerstone for the entire Verily Enterprise Network infrastructure. You will be the subject matter expert and technical leader for the rest of the business, responsible for setting the strategic direction, designing, implementing, and maintaining all aspects of our global network. This role demands a leader who can operate at a deep technical level while also contributing to long-term architectural strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Lead Architecture, Design, and Strategy: Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of physical and logical network infrastructure at all of Verily’s global locations. This includes setting standards for LAN, WAN, WiFi, and network security (e.g., zero-trust frameworks). Lead the design and implementation of secure, resilient, and scalable connections to multiple cloud providers, establishing robust routing protocols.

  • Automation and Scalability: Drive the automation of network operations. Develop and maintain network automation, configuration management, and monitoring tools using technologies.

  • Monitoring and Operational Excellence: Engineer and implement comprehensive monitoring, alerting, and capacity planning frameworks for all network equipment and virtual appliances to ensure proactive issue identification and high availability.

  • Advanced Troubleshooting and Mentorship: Serve as the final escalation point (Tier 3-4) for diagnosing and troubleshooting complex network issues. Mentor junior engineers and NOC staff, developing their skills and creating documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs).

  • Vendor and Partner Management: Manage relationships with network equipment vendors and service providers, driving accountability, managing escalations, and influencing technology roadmaps.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience with 10+ years of progressive experience in Network Engineering, with a demonstrated focus on architecture and design in a complex, multi-vendor enterprise environment.

  • Expert-level knowledge of WiFi technologies (e.g., channel planning and interference mitigation, WPA2/WPA3 and 802.1X authentication), switching, routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF), firewall functionality (e.g., NAT, VPN), and cloud networking concepts (e.g., VPC, Transit Gateway).

  • Demonstrable expertise in working with Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, and Palo Alto Networks equipment and management platforms.

  • Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and troubleshooting skills, with the ability to diagnose and resolve complex issues in high-pressure situations.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Professional or Expert-level certifications from Cisco (e.g., CCIE), Juniper (e.g., JNCIE), Aruba, Palo Alto Networks, or equivalent.

  • Deep expertise with automation and scripting technologies (e.g., Terraform, Python) within a CI/CD environment.

  • Proven experience designing, implementing, and managing complex distributed systems in a public cloud environment (GCP, AWS, or Azure).

  • Experience with IT security and compliance frameworks (e.g., SOX, ISO 27001, HIPAA) and implementing zero-trust security architectures.
