Description
Job Overview:
- Gather relevant technical data, design requirements, and other necessary information to help determine the best solution for aircraft related issues and projects.
- Reverse engineer parts and assemblies to generate manufacturing drawings of legacy aircraft components
- Perform hand calculations, utilize CAD, FEA tools, and technical data to help develop, assess, or optimize parts, repairs, or modification designs.
- Work with onsite resources, such as the fabrication shop, 3d printers, waterjet table, etc., to generate prototypes and installation ready parts and assemblies.
- Aid in generating documents, design drawings, and detailed substantiation reports based on FEA simulations, hand calculations, and research for in-house requirements and USAF/NAVY/FAA deliverables.
- Research equivalent fit/form/function part replacements for engineering recommendation of use for non-procurable parts
- Support all engineering processes and help develop or optimize new processes as needed.
Qualifications
Required Qualifications:
- In-progress BS in mechanical or aerospace/aeronautical engineering or relevant specialty
- Team project experience (collegiate project teams or prior intern/professional settings)
- Strong CAD design skills (any platform) and technical drawing fundamentals (related coursework applies)
- Strong understanding and initial coursework complete for engineering fundamentals: structures/statics, materials, fluids/aero, thermal, mech/design
- Strong familiarity with measuring instruments such as calipers, micrometers, and standard scales in both Metric and Imperial standards
- Ability to summarize technical content and cohesively relay the information on paper or in-person
- Ability to independently work to solve technical problems with minimal guidance
- Ability to find, identify, or generate reliable and verifiable data and information to be used to support a problem-solving process.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Leadership experience (collegiate project teams or otherwise)
- Experience in Autodesk Inventor or Solidworks
- Basic to intermediate structures stress analysis and knowledge (Finite Element Software/hand calculations, relevant course work)
- Electrical design or troubleshooting experience (relevant EE course work)
- Any Aviation/Aircraft related experience
- Matlab or other coding language, and advanced MS Excel skills
- Machining / fabrication knowledge
- CMM and 3D scanning experience
- Strong communication, organization, and time management skills
