Purpose:

The summer student will work closely with the Cybersecurity team to help improve the overall security of all systems, for all employees within Whitecap Resources. The summer student will gain knowledge of both  policies and procedures as well as oil and gas experience.

Main Responsibilities & Activities:

  • Provide tier 1 support for daily cybersecurity operations, including monitoring, alert handling, and initial incident triage.

  • Develop proficiency with key cybersecurity tools used by the team, including CrowdStrike Next-Gen SIEM, to enhance threat detection and incident response.

  • Manage logging from various sources with the goal of gaining better visibility and insights.

  • Update hardware and software asset inventories.

  • Deploy, configure, and manage secure network segmentation initiatives.

  • Participate in company-wide cybersecurity awareness and training program.

  • Review, update and create documentation.

  • Assist with additional tasks as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Working towards a degree or diploma, preferably in Information Technology, is required.

  • Basic understanding of computer hardware, software and network concepts.

  • Experience with scripting languages such as Python or PowerShell.

  • Independently motivated individuals with strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.

  • Self-starter capable of working independently with minimal supervision.

  • Strong documentation and communication skills are required.

  • Team-oriented professional who actively learns new technologies and contributes to achieving shared objectives.

  • A trustworthy individual, capable of safeguarding confidential information.

  • Oil and Gas experience is a benefit.
