Senior Workplace Health and Safety Lead

- Band 8 classification, salary commencing at $124,454.39 per annum (commensurate with skills and experience)
The Opportunity
Are you a strategic Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) leader ready to make a lasting impact across a dynamic organisation? This is a rare opportunity to step into a senior role that directly shapes the safety, wellbeing and organisational culture of Moonee Valley City Council.
As the Senior WHS Lead, you will work alongside the Head of People & Safety to guide the direction of Council’s WHS function, drive delivery of the WHS Strategy and Plan, and lead a high-performing team committed to creating safer, healthier workplaces.
You will also play a key role in preparing Council to meet new and emerging regulatory requirements, including leading the program of work to ensure compliance with the Occupational Health and Safety (Psychological Health) Regulations 2025. This is a role where your leadership, expertise and influence will be felt at every level.

Responsibilities
- Lead delivery of key milestones under the Occupational Health and Safety Regulations Project Plan in partnership with the Head of People & Safety.
- Conduct gap analyses and support compliance planning, prioritisation and implementation of actions relating to new WHS regulatory requirements.
- Drive the delivery of Council’s WHS Strategy and Plan, ensuring alignment with organisational priorities and legislative obligations.
- Produce high-quality WHS reporting for the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and Audit & Risk Committee (ARC).
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of WHS systems, policies and procedures.
- Provide exceptional strategic leadership to embed a culture of continuous improvement and to strengthen psychosocial health and wellbeing across Council.
- Maintain accurate and comprehensive documentation for both business as usual (BAU) deliverables and project-based activities.
- Act as a senior WHS advisor, influencing decision-making at Management and Executive levels.
Skills & Experience
- Tertiary qualifications in WHS or a related discipline or demonstrated equivalent experience.
- Extensive experience in WHS compliance, risk management and the delivery of complex WHS projects.
- Strong understanding of WHS legislation, codes of practice, risk management principles and regulatory change.
- Proven ability to interpret and implement new regulatory requirements, including psychosocial safety principles (desirable).
- Highly developed written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence, engage and build credibility across all levels.
- Demonstrated capability to work autonomously while managing competing priorities across both BAU and project commitments.
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to produce high-quality reporting and contribute to policy development.
