Overview:

The Rehabilitation Technician will transfer and transport patients and provide patient care under direct supervision of a clinician within the policies and procedures of both the Institute and the departmental program, and in accordance with Laws and Regulations of the State of Maryland. The incumbent will assist clinical staff in the provision of patient care programs and perform supportive tasks, including those serving the administrative, maintenance, and operational needs of the program. This position requires proficiency in at least one area of concentration which is meaningful and of value to the department.

 

Responsibilities:
  1. Responsible for overseeing one or more programmatic areas of concentration/responsibility.
  2. Prepare, maintain, and clean patient treatment areas before & after treatment sessions. Adhere to Kennedy Krieger Institute policies regarding patient & staff safety, hygiene, patient privacy, and patient-specific and standard precautions.
  3. Assist in the practice of therapeutic exercise & functional activities programs under direct supervision of a Physical Therapist, Occupational Therapist, or Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) per Maryland state law.
  4. Demonstrate appropriate application and removal of electrodes and orthotic devices, as well as technical proficiency of adaptive equipment and rehabilitation modalities. Informs clinicians of any adverse effects.
  5. Greet, transport, and assist patients with hygiene and/or dressing needs.
  6. Remind and clarify appointment schedules for patients in conjunction with clinicians’ treatment plans and care center scheduling.
  7. Provide general program overview and conduct tours of the clinic for new patients and families.
  8. Maintain program supplies, including ordering, inventory control, labeling, and storing supplies.
  9. Participate in maintenance, organization, care, cleaning, transport, tracking, scheduling and safe storage of equipment. Identify and correct/report quality control problems, such as removal and coordinating repair of broken equipment or environmental hazards.
  10. Actively participate in meetings and committees including execution of tasks related to preparing for regulatory review and performance improvement projects. Attend staff and supervisory meetings and training sessions.
Qualifications:
  • Must possess and maintain certification from an accredited institution in Rehabilitation Therapy Aide required.
  • Must possess and maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross.

 

EDUCATION:

  • High School diploma, GED, or equivalent required.
  • Associate’s degree preferred.
  • Enrollment in health occupation curriculum, certification, or academic program is preferred.

 

EXPERIENCE:

  • Minimum 1 year of experience as a Rehabilitation Aide, Rehabilitation Technician, or a comparable position required.
  • Experience working with or treating children or adults with developmental or acquired disabilities is preferred.
