SUMMARY 

We are seeking an experienced Technical Director/Senior Consultant to deliver high-level historic preservation consulting services. This role requires deep expertise in historic architecture, preservation planning, and compliance with federal standards. The ideal candidate will combine technical proficiency with strong business development skills and client relationship management.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & TASKS

  • Provide expert guidance on historic preservation projects, ensuring compliance with the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards (36 CFR 61).
  • Conduct and oversee Section 106 assessments, National Register nominations, Historic Tax Credit (HTC) consulting and Historic Evaluations (assessments of opportunities and risks relating to historic status).
  • Deliver Equity Property Condition Assessments and HTC Construction Progress Monitoring (preferred).
  • Lead business development initiatives, including proposal preparation and client engagement.
  • Manage and maintain strong client relationships, serving as a trusted advisor.
  • Supervise project teams and ensure quality control across all deliverables.
  • Stay current with federal, state, and local preservation regulations and best practices.

 

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES

  • Experience with Equity Property Condition Assessments and HTC Construction Progress Monitoring.
  • Ability to manage complex, multi-disciplinary projects.
  • Business development and strategic growth experience.
  • Familiarity with preservation technology tools and reporting systems.

 

Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Historic Preservation or a closely related field.
  • 10+ years of professional experience in historic preservation (15+ years preferred).
  • Certified under the Secretary of the Interior’s Standards (36 CFR 61) as a Certified Architectural Historian / Historian / Historic Architect.
  • Proven track record in Section 106 compliance, HTC consulting, and National Register nominations.
  • Strong leadership, communication, and client management skills.

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to read, write, speak & comprehend English
  • Must be able to communicate clearly in person and over the telephone
  • Visual acuity adequate to perform job duties, including reading information from printed sources and the computer screen
  • Requires frequent bending, reaching, standing, walking, sitting, pushing, and pulling exertion regularly throughout the work shift.
  • Requires the ability to climb a ladder.

Compensation

Salary Range: $100,000 - $140,000

The pay scale for this role considers a wide range of factors when making compensation decisions, including, but not limited to, skill sets, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Please note, the disclosed pay scale estimate has not been adjusted for the applicable geographic location where the position may be filled.  You may also be eligible to participate in a discretionary incentive bonus program, which is dependent on various factors, including, but not limited to, individual and organizational performance.
