Duties:

  • Takes and records various readings such as heart and respiratory rate, blood pressure, weight, body temperature, etc.
  • Collects and processes samples from patients including blood, urine, etc. 
  • Prepares samples for analysis or shipment.
  • Collects all laboratory reports, data, and records.
  • Instructs medical personnel in the use of highly specialized research equipment, drugs, etc. 
  • Participates in and contributes to research activities that are related to the area of specialization in which they are involved.
  • Participates in conferences pertaining to the research area.
  • Identifies patients who may be eligible to participate in the research program. 
  • Performs the initial assessment of potential patients.
  • Provides potential patients with study information. 
  • Obtains informed consent forms. 
  • Obtains clinical history and completes patient data forms.
  • Acts as the immediate clinical resource and the liaison between physicians, nurses, laboratory personnel, etc.
  • Performs data management and data analysis. 
  • Responsible for the initiation, organization, and carrying out of patient follow-up. 
  • Assesses patients at all follow-up visits. 
  • Attends various meetings pertaining to the research program.
  • May present information in research meetings.
  • Collaborates with other clinical sites for research purposes.
  • Performs various duties as needed to successfully fulfill the function of the position.


Required Education: Bachelors Degree in Nursing, AND:

  • 12 months professional nursing (RN) experience

Equivalent/ Substitution: Will accept an Associate’s Degree in Nursing and 24 months professional nursing (RN) experience in lieu of the Bachelor’s Degree for a total of 36 months experience. 

Skills:

  • Advanced knowledge of techniques needed to diagnose and treat illness or injury related issues, to includes but not limited to treatment alternatives, drug properties and interactions, and preventive health care measures.
  • Advanced knowledge of (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA).
  • Ability to give full attention to what is being said and understand the points being made.
  • Ability to ask questions when appropriate.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to deal with staff, physicians, visitors, vendors, and patients in a tactful, diplomatic, and pleasant manner.
  • Ability to work in stressful situations and meet deadlines.
  • Must be detail oriented and organized.
  • Ability to work independently and as a team member.
  • Basic math and computer skills.
  • Detail oriented for accuracy of data and information.
  • Well organized and ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines.
  • Ability to build and maintain rapport with students, faculty, staff, and providers.
  • Ability to solve problems
  • High level of organization skills
  • Exercise discretion when making judgements and to determine proper course of action while following established standards.

Certifications or Licenses: State of Oklahoma Registered Nurse Licensure, BLS, and CPR certification.
