Job Title: Process Engineer–Tooling & Design Department: Reliability and Process Engineering
Reports to: Process Engineering Manager FLSA (Exempt / Non Exempt): Exempt
Job Summary: Support manufacturing processes for new and existing motor, pump and meter production lines. Responsible for designing new assembly tools, fixtures and factory automation processes as well as improving existing ones. Analyzing process system and implementing effective changes to optimize manufacturing processes for maximum efficiency, cost-effectiveness, and quality. Collaborating closely with product engineers and production management on efforts of Design for Manufacturability, providing input on product design improvements to promote safety, ease of assembly, and Lean manufacturing principles. Meet with manufacturing teams to determine their design requirements, plan, and execute the design of mechanical devices and systems, develop and test prototypes, and ensure that design specifications are met. Keeping abreast of the latest advancements in assembly technology and engineering best practices to find creative solutions to technical problems.
Job Details:
- In collaboration with assemblers, manufacturing leadership, Lean mfg. team, and Reliability team, this position will design assembly fixtures and tooling for all GPI products.
- Sharing designs with colleagues and implementing any relevant feedback in the new designs.
- Works in close collaboration with Product Design Engineering teams from design concept inception to optimize the design for quality and manufacturability of GPI products.
- Conducting research to inform the design and engineering methods required for mechanical systems.
- Developing or facilitating development of assembly and functional test methods tooling and equipment.
- Assist Product Engineers to validate the performance of the product in the manufacturing and assembly environment.
- Responsible for implementing and qualifying functional test methods and standards into manufacturing.
- Documenting the design process, iterations, and test analytics.
- Assess all tooling design prototypes to determine issues or risks.
- Creating tooling blueprints and designs using Autodesk Inventor.
- Source and coordinate with machining fabricators and contractors
- Preparing technical reports, design specifications documents, and operating procedures.
- Maintain existing engineering standards and tooling designs.
- Works with Production Team members, QA, and product design engineering to investigate manufacturing quality issues and determines root cause(s) and corrective actions.

Job Qualifications:
Required
- 5+ years 3D CAD tooling design experience
- Creating 2D prints for mechanical parts and assembles
- 2+ years of tool fabrication experience.
- Excellent computer skills with proficiency in MS office products.
- Problem solver – adept at troubleshooting and resolving issues
- Strong understanding of team dynamics and fosters teamwork
- Ability to manage your time efficiently to work independently and to collaborate with others
- Ability to communicate (written and verbal) with leaders, teammates and manufacturing employees in a collaborative manner. Must be able to facilitate training with all education levels.
Preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in Manufacturing, Industrial, or Mechanical Engineering
- Experience with process simulations and standard operating procedures
- Experience performing Process Failure Mode Effects Analysis (PFMEA)
- Experience with Autodesk Inventor
- Experience with ERP systems
- Experience in Lean and Six Sigma principles
- Experience with Motor, Pump and Meter design
- Experience with tool/system design for mistake proof assembly (poka yoke)
- GD&T experience
- Experience working with design or production of products under regulatory agencies.
Job Requirements:
Physical:
- Standing on concrete factory floor as needed in production and engineering lab.
- Must be able to wear steel toe safety shoes, safety glasses and other PPE equipment as required for work function.
- Ability to safety reach, stretch, bend and lift parts and product from a standing position.
Tools / Equipment: Powered and hand tools to perform the function of position.
Working Conditions: 1st shift in office and temperature-controlled factory.
