Structure
The Director of Prospect Development supports of the Academic Health Enterprise is an exempt (salaried) position employed by the University of Cincinnati Foundation (UCF) and reports to the Assistant Vice President of Prospect Development.
Focus
The Director of Prospect Development oversees the day-to-day operations of the prospect development program and team in support of the Academic Health Enterprise, which includes UC Health, the grateful patient program, and UC’s academic health colleges. This role is a key member of the team that focuses on optimizing prospective donor pools and pipelines, and on providing the strategic insights required to effectively manage UCF’s relationship with its constituents.
The Director leads their team’s client service activities and ensures the effective delivery of a full suite of services, including prospect management, portfolio analysis and review, pipeline management, and prospect research. By building strong partnerships with front-line fundraisers and colleagues across the organization the Director ensures the prospect development needs of the Academic Health Enterprise are fully supported.
Specific Duties
- Act as lead on the planning and execution of the prospect development program for the Academic Health Enterprise which includes UC Health, the grateful patient fundraising process/database, and UC’s academic health colleges.
- Provide oversight of and, as needed, provide direct data, system, and policy support to units, development officers, and other university staff to ensure timely and accurate management of prospect data.
- Lead and oversee prospect development operational functions including but not limited to data analysis and visualization, system enhancements, and data maintenance.
- Recruit, lead, motivate and manage a team of prospect development professionals; establish objectives, set performance standards and productivity metrics, and evaluate performance; provide appropriate levels of training, mentoring and professional development. Assign and direct projects and oversee day-to-day operations of the team.
- Serve as part of the prospect development leadership group, helping to identify strategic objectives and goals for the team.
- Provide formal and informal training on prospect development processes and procedures to development officers and other UCF staff.
- Compile information utilizing various research profile formats in a consistent and professional manner, to best suit the needs of our individual research consumers.
- Provide specific leadership for profiles and briefings that support UC, UC Health and UCF Presidents.
- Proactively initiate special projects across the spectrum of prospect development services.
- Assist in development and testing of UCF tools and reports to support fundraising initiatives.

Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree with 5-7 years of experience, or advanced degree with 3-5 years of experience.
- Background in development at a higher education institution is preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of prospect research principles, practices and the tools of the trade, with prior experience utilizing a fundraising database such as Raiser’s Edge or Blackbaud CRM.
- Strong background analyzing, structuring, manipulating, and interpreting data with the ability to determine relevant and irrelevant data.
- Exceptional, quality writing. The ability to compose concise, focused research documents with attention to accuracy and detail that supports the cultivation and solicitation processes.
- High level of integrity that protects all involved when collecting sensitive information about donors & prospects.
- Strong experience leveraging information resources. A keen understanding of available resources and the ability to retrieve information.
- Ability to connect with people to collect relevant, meaningful information with strong interpersonal, communication and negotiating skills.
- Ability to successfully manage multiple priorities, produce quality work and meet strict deadlines.
- Work independently and know when to partner.
- Self-motivation but asks for direction & guidance.
- Previous experience working with HIPAA, an academic medical center, or a grateful patient program is strongly preferred, but not required.
- A commitment to the department’s values of: curiosity, partnership, a can do attitude, and courage.
- Knowledge of the University of Cincinnati is preferred but not required.
What We Offer
The anticipated starting salary range for the Director of Prospect Development - Academic Health Enterprise role is $75,000 to $90,000 annually. When determining final offer amount the UC Foundation considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, external market data, as well as, market and business considerations when making compensation decisions.
