The iC.A.R.E. Professional Mentor is a grant funded position in collaboration with Jobs for Ohio’s Graduates (JOG). This position is responsible for coordinating and providing mentoring to youth aged 15-18 who reside in Akron and have experienced justice involvement, expulsion from school, or at least one documented risk factor. The purpose/intent of the i.C.A.R.E Professional Mentor is to provide specific, measurable, and individualized services to each program participant served. Recruitment and selection of program participants will come from the Summit County Juvenile Court who will refer justice-involved youth in Akron who have had contact with the court.



Essential Functions and Duties:

  • Provide individual mentoring to youth who reside in Akron with justice involvement, expulsion from school, and at least one documented risk factor.
  • Engage and mentor a mentee once per week for the duration of the school year with continued engagement during the summer months.
  • Engage mentee with activities that allow for rapport building, conversation, and mentor/mentee relationship development.
  • Provide conflict resolution training using the ThinkBuildLive Success program in 90 minute sessions.
  • Build relationships with collaborative partners of the grant, facility or school staff, and mentee parents for efficient delivery of program services.
  • Become familiar with the Game Plan curriculum.
  • Respect the mentee’s safety and privacy, and the privacy of the family.
  • Follow the guidelines listed in the mentor service agreement.
  • Complete weekly mentor reports and maintain iC.A.R.E Mentoring and facility logbooks.
  • Participate in scheduled JOG and iC.A.R.E team meetings.
  • Maintain regular communication with the grant collaborative partners and direct supervisor regarding both the success and challenges experienced in providing the mentoring program.
  • Assist in program evaluation by completing pre/post measures and satisfaction surveys with mentees.
  • Participate in Mentor Professional Development(s), annual mentor training, and Mentor Survey.
  • Promote and participate in Family Engagement events.
  • Other duties as assigned.


Qualifications/Requirements:

A bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in education, social work, communications, organization management or related field. School-based, Nonprofit, and/or behavioral health experience, highly preferred. Possession of a valid Ohio driver’s license.

Work Environment:

This job operates in a professional office environment and in the community. While performing the duties of this position in the office, this role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers, and fax machines. The employee will travel to nearby locations for meetings or visits to work sites and be exposed to changing weather conditions.
