Shift: 3×12 Days (7:00 AM – 7:00 PM)
Pay: $2,080.80/week
Completion Bonus: $2,450 per contract (up to $7,350 after three contracts)
Position Overview
ATC Healthcare is seeking a skilled and compassionate Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) Registered Nurse (RN) for a travel assignment in San Antonio, TX. The NICU RN provides complex and developmentally appropriate care to premature and critically ill newborns. This role requires strong clinical judgment, the ability to respond to rapidly changing conditions, and a high level of compassion for newborns and their families.
The RN will practice independently in routine and complex situations, delegate as appropriate, and contribute to the interdisciplinary care plan. Candidates must be able to address the emotional, cultural, and social needs of patients and families, while delivering safe, evidence-based neonatal care.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide high-acuity neonatal care using the full nursing process—assessment, diagnosis, planning, intervention, and evaluation.
- Deliver safe and developmentally appropriate care to premature and critically ill neonates.
- Administer medications and treatments following neonatal protocols; monitor for side effects and effectiveness.
- Perform continuous assessments including vital signs, respiratory status, feeding tolerance, and changes in condition.
- Support neonatal stabilization post-resuscitation and prior to transport per STABLE standards.
- Utilize and manage specialized NICU equipment (ventilators, CPAP, feeding tubes, phototherapy, central lines, etc.).
- Collaborate with neonatologists, respiratory therapy, and the interdisciplinary team to plan and coordinate care.
- Document assessments, interventions, medications, and neonatal response accurately in the EMR.
- Provide education and emotional support to families regarding newborn care, treatments, and discharge planning.
- Assist in mentorship of newer staff and participate in ongoing competency validation.
- Float to related perinatal or newborn care units as appropriate.
Qualifications
- Active Texas or Compact RN license (required).
- Minimum 1 year of recent NICU or Perinatal RN experience (preferred; must have recent clinical proficiency).
- Certifications (AHA Required):
- BLS
- NRP (required)
- STABLE certification (Participant, Lead Instructor, or Support Instructor — required)
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN preferred).
- Strong assessment, critical-thinking, and neonatal emergency management skills.
- Ability to manage complex psychosocial, emotional, and cultural needs of families.
- Must complete New Nurse Orientation and required NICU/perinatal competency validation.
- Proof of COVID-19 vaccination and recent tuberculosis test required.
