Astroscale France is seeking a Mechanical/Thermal Architect to support the growth of our Toulouse office.
In this role, you will be responsible for mechanical and thermal activities across all project phases — from early design to test validation — including supplier management.
You will work in close collaboration with the System Engineering, GNC, Computer Vision, and AIT teams to ensure the successful development and integration of our satellites.
Responsibilities
System configuration and accommodation
- Finding the best compromise in placement of equipment within a satellite structure, fulfilling their accommodation needs.
- Management of the structure and thermal interfaces with systems engineering.
Satellite structure and thermal design
- Establish structure and thermal concept for the satellite platform.
- Defining and designing the satellite structure, together with the mechanical analysis engineer.
- Defining and designing the satellite thermal control hardware, together with the thermal analysis engineer.
Technical supplier management for structure and thermal hardware supplier
- Establishing technical requirements specifications for structure and thermal subsystem.
- Organization of reviews of thermal/mechanical analyses and test documentation.
- Review of interface control documents and responsible for consistency between unit level and structure + thermal ICDs.
Verification and Validation Campaign
- Organization of test campaign in accordance with AIT.
- Participation in testing activities.
Experience and Qualifications
Essential Skills
- Masters engineering degree in an associated field.
- At least 5+ years’ experience in their areas of expertise.
- Specialized knowledge in the fields of satellite structures and thermal control as well as analysis.
- Experience in generating requirements and working requirements based.
- In depth understanding of satellite structure and thermal subsystem.
- Experience in technical supplier management
- Experience in vibration and TVac testing (preparation, execution and correlation)
- Experience people/technical management
- Proficient in SolidWorks or equivalent
- Proficient in APEX, Nastran or equivalent
- Proficient in Systema, Esatan,…
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills and ability to influence at all levels.
- Excellent coaching capacity.
- Ability to work on multiple projects in parallel
- The ability to act as a role model for Astrocale’s culture
- Fluent in French and English
- Be eligible and registered to work within Europe.
- Be eligible to gain security clearance in France
