Situated in beautiful northwestern Ontario, 65 km northwest of Fort Frances, the Rainy River Mine is an open pit and underground, gold and silver producing, residential mine site.
The Rainy River Mine, located adjacent to the Ontario / Minnesota border is 65 Kilometers northwest of Fort Frances, Ontario and is situated half way between Winnipeg, Manitoba and Thunder Bay, Ontario. The area is home to more than 130 species of birds and large populations of moose, black bear and deer. If you enjoy outdoor activities including hunting, fishing, winter sports and lake country then this is an area you will love to live and work in.

Position Overview:
The Underground Mine Engineer / Engineer-in-Training (EIT) is responsible for supporting the safe and efficient execution of underground mine development and production through high-quality designs, detailed planning, and effective collaboration with Operations, Geology, and Technical Services.
This role offers excellent exposure to a wide range of technical areas, from drill and blast design to short- and medium-range planning, with mentorship from senior engineers and clear growth pathways toward Mine Planner and Senior Engineer positions.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and maintain short- and medium-term mine plans using Deswik CAD, IS, and Scheduler, ensuring alignment between design, schedule, and production targets.
- Generate drill and blast designs, stope layouts, and void pull letters using Deswik CAD.
- Coordinate with the Survey team on CMS updates, control lines, and spatial data management.
- Produce daily and monthly performance reports including metres developed, tonnes mined, and contractor activity summaries.
- Conduct underground field audits to verify design compliance, ventilation integrity, and drilling QA/QC.
- Collaborate closely with Operations, Geology, and Maintenance to ensure design practicality and plan execution.
- Support stope and development reconciliation, dilution control, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Contribute to the preparation of weekly, monthly, and quarterly corporate reports and presentations.
- Promote a proactive approach to safety, hazard identification, and ground control in all designs.
- Assist in the implementation of standardized planning processes and systems across the underground engineering team.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Mining Engineering or a related field.
- 1–5 years of experience in an underground mining operation
- Eligible for or registered as an EIT or P.Eng. with Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO).
- Working knowledge of Deswik software suite (CAD, IS, Scheduler) is strongly preferred; experience with AutoCAD or MineSight is an asset.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities with an attention to technical accuracy.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally.
- Familiarity with mine safety systems, ventilation, ground control, and QA/QC practices.
- Experience with data visualization tools (e.g. Power BI, Power Query) considered an asset.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to work in a remote camp environment.
