As a Labourer II, you will bring your expertise in laboring to support the construction and maintenance of Auxiliary structures across the vibrant City of Edmonton. What will you do?
- Operate power tools, hand tools and small equipment, such as chainsaws, tampers, mowers, jackhammers, blower packs, generators etc.
- Construct, repair and clean auxiliary assets, such as fences, railings, streetscape etc.
- Assist in the maintenance and construction of auxiliary assets including but not limited to: stairs, bollards, fences and guardrails, noise walls, retaining walls etc.
- Load and unload material from truck to work site, and vice versa
- Assist with flagging procedures when required
- Assist with snow removal duties
- Assist with yard duties when required
- Assist with digging holes and trenches
- Operate light delivery vehicles to transport material and supplies
- Work independently when familiar with duties, as well as part of a team
- Read and interpret surface grading plans and specification drawings
- Perform work within standard safety and environment requirements and in keeping with the standard operating procedures (SOP)
- Perform other related duties as required
- Completion of Grade 10 or higher
- Minimum of 1 year of experience with Auxiliary Structures, including operation of all vehicles and associated equipment
- Experience with graffiti abatement, chain link/wooden fences, concrete work and /or guardrail/deterrent posts
Assets:
- Valid Emergency First Aid Certification
- Extensive knowledge of City of Edmonton roadway systems
- Experience mentoring and directing the work of others
- Class 3 license with Airbrake (Q) endorsement
Skills required for success:
- Ability to use and care for equipment, vehicles and hand/power tools used in daily tasks
- Ability to maintain simple records and understand verbal and written instructions
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills
- Ability to work well within a team

Conditions of Employment:
- Valid Alberta Class 5 driver's licence (or provincial equivalent).Obtaining and maintaining a City Driver's permit is a requirement of this position
- Compliance with the City of Edmonton's safety standards for Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) is a requirement for this position
Work Environment:
- Physically capable of performing the duties assigned, including manual labour for extended periods of time at various heights and in diverse weather and environmental conditions
- 5 x 8 hour shifts
- Evening and weekend work may occasionally be required
