Join Irving Shipbuilding as a Welding Engineering student and contribute to projects that advance welding technologies for new applications in shipbuilding. You’ll also support production teams in the field and help develop innovative solutions to technical challenges, making a meaningful impact on the future of shipbuilding.
In this role, you will work alongside a Welding Engineer who provides subject matter expertise on fusion joining processes, supervises Welder Technicians during testing activities, and collaborates with stakeholders to ensure welding quality.

Responsibilities
- Support the development of weld procedures.
- Support the development of technical welding documents and technical support to the business.
- Participate in new equipment evaluation.
- Participate in on-site technical support.
- Participate in production Quality Control support.
Qualifications
- Enrolled in Bachelor of Engineering (B. Eng.) or equivalent.
- 0-2 years' experience.
- Ability to resolve technical welding and material problems to achieve first time quality.
- Demonstrate knowledge relating practical aspects of welding and inspection.
- Strong working knowledge of MS Office suite, SharePoint, ability to independently learn to operate new technical software packages.
- Technical communication and influencing skills.
- Ability to communicate technical information in accessible format.
- Organizational skills.
Due to the nature of the work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Please note the successful candidate will be required to complete a standard drug and medical test in order to adhere to our health and safety guidelines at the Halifax Shipyard.
