General Description / Job Purpose:
• Supervision of contractors’ construction activities on Solar renewable energy projects focused on Mechanical balance of plant/or grid interconnection works but otherwise as required by the Site Superintendent.


Responsibilities:
General:

  • Use reasonable endeavours to remain abreast with market and technological developments and to identify new technologies that may contribute towards the development of the Business and improvements in the Company.
  • Foster and lead a corporate culture that promotes sustainable ethical practices, encourages individual integrity and fulfils social responsibility objectives and imperatives.
  • Recommending policy and procedure improvements;
  • Ensuring overall compliance to all the internal Policy and Procedures of the Company, including compliance with Corporate ESMS (Environmental, Social, Management System), IFC Standards and Equator Principles;
  • Carry out duties in a proper, loyal and efficient manner to the best of their ability and at all times act in good faith and use their best endeavours to properly conduct, improve, extend, develop, promote, protect and preserve the business interests, reputation and goodwill of the Company and not do anything or engage in any activity which is or may become harmful or contrary to such interests;
  • Immediately disclose to the Employer any information which comes to their knowledge, and which does, or may, lead to them not being lawfully able to perform their duties or responsibilities.

Execution Phase (Construction and Commissioning)

  • In support of the Site Superintendent and Project Manager, coordinating and supervising construction works, ensuring that the client’s specifications and Employers requirements are met, closely monitoring, reviewing progress and liaising with the construction contractors.
  • Having a detailed view and understanding of the Project Schedule, contractor's planning, especially with works scheduled in the same areas which may pose a risk of clashing activities and on the critical path.
  • Interrogating such contractors to ascertain their mitigating measures to avoid clashes of works.
  • Supervising and reporting activities on site assuring that timeline, quality testing and costs of each activity is performed correctly in all the phases of the project;
  • Enforcing compliance with, Standards and Specification as follows:
  • Surveillance of the contractor's onsite activities through witnessing inspections and tests, observing material handling, change control (RFI), ensuring safe HSE practices, and verifying proper execution of construction processes;
  • Keeping records in accordance with specification/code requirements and approved inspection and test plans (Quality Control Plan's).
  • Plan and attend meetings onsite and follow-up implementation and close-out of agreed 
    quality-related actions;
  • Facilitate construction contractors or independent (third party) verification activities as specified in agreed inspection and test plans (Quality Control Plan's);
  • Verify the completeness and accuracy of the "as-built" documentation to be provided by the construction contractors.
  • Liaising with the Site Superintendent, project team and other construction professionals (Health and Safety Manager, Commissioning Manager, Quality Manager, etc…) and, sometimes, members of the main authorities (utilities, etc…).
  • Supporting fellow Project Team members fully, and in periods of downtime
  • Making safety inspections and monitoring construction and site safety;
  • Maintain observation reports/logs including work description, work methods, contractors on site, weather conditions, observations, photos, etc.; 
  • Keeping detailed photographic and written records of works, and any delays for control 
    purposes and as required.
  • Checking, preparing site reports timeously (daily, weekly, monthly as required)
  • Implementing client’s quality control procedures and monitoring that the contraction contractors fully implement their respective quality procedures for the project as approved by the client;
  • Review progress claims (payment milestone claims) from the construction contractors, ensure verification or response via email with comments if inaccurate, and when necessary, negotiate revisions in accordance with the Site Superintendent and Project Manager – apply earned value assessment as required by the Project Manager;
  • Assisting with quality, inspections, verifications, punch listing and other project completion activities in coordination with the Site Superintendent, Commissioning Manager and O&M team;
  • Ensure all the construction contract requirements are fulfilled before the final completion is released for each of the construction contractors.

Minimum Educational Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering preferred; engineering background is preferred. 

Minimum Previous Experience 


  • 5+ years as a site Supervisor 
  • Expertise in renewable projects is preferred 
  • South African citizen preferred
