Job Purpose
We are looking for a Senior Planning Officer to join our team at Port Botany, NSW. In this role, you will manage and coordinate the movement of containers from the Sydney container park rail services to the terminals.
You will be responsible for planning, scheduling, and overseeing all transfers to ensure they meet operational requirements, service agreements, and regulatory standards. This role is key to optimising asset use, reducing delays, and maintaining smooth operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Plan and manage daily container transfers from rail arrivals to wharf terminals, ensuring alignment with vessel schedules, cut-off times, and customer requirements.
Coordinate with rail and container park teams to optimise operational schedules and secure Vehicle Booking System (VBS) slots for timely transfers.
Analyse demand patterns, vessel schedules, and rail availability to forecast resources and plan operations in advance.
Maximise operational efficiency by achieving full utilisation of company-owned truck fleets before engaging subcontractors, meeting agreed KPI targets.
Oversee real-time container movements, proactively identifying and resolving delays or disruptions while keeping stakeholders informed.
Conduct root-cause analysis of transfer issues and implement corrective actions to improve operational performance.
Qualifications, Skills and Experience:
Minimum 5 year’s experience in transport planning, container logistics, or related operations.
Proficient in Transport Management Systems (TMS) and Vehicle Booking Systems (VBS).
Strong understanding of port, rail, and wharf terminal operations.
Proven ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines with high attention to detail.
Excellent problem-solving, analytical, and decision-making skills.
Effective communication and stakeholder management skills, with sound knowledge of industry regulations, compliance, and safety standards.
