Animal Husbandry Internship at Caldwell Zoo

Spring 2026 paid internships are available at Caldwell Zoo in Tyler, Texas in the areas of Animal Husbandry. (Available departments: Mammals 1, Mammals 2, Birds, and Reptiles)

The Caldwell Zoo is seeking highly motivated, hard-working, professional minded students who want to take advantage of educational opportunities to gain on-the-job experience in the zoological career field.

Internship learning opportunities and duties include:

• Safe methods of exotic animal handling and restraint 
• Animal behavior, husbandry, and record keeping 
• Animal nutrition, to include preparing and distributing animal diets 
• Preventative medicine and disease treatment 
• Water quality testing and water changes
• Cleaning animal enclosures 
• Visitor relations 

• Watch animal medical procedures
• Attend a Veterinary Department meeting 
• Assist keepers with daily projects 
• Shadow up to five other departments 

Requirements

• Must be 18 years of age or older
• Must be a sophomore in college or have a higher classification
• Overall GPA must be 2.5 or higher

Duration 

January 14^th through May 5^th

* Any time off requested during the internship (excluding illness or emergency) must be discussed in the interview and approved before starting the internship.
