SUMMARY

 

The Community Newspaper Coordinator is responsible for developing and producing a monthly community newspaper for a 55+ resort-style community. This role involves partnering with various internal departments, resident groups, and the Board of Directors to gather information, write and edit articles, promote upcoming events, and highlight important community updates. The coordinator will also serve as the primary point of contact with the external printing vendor, ensuring the newspaper is delivered professionally, accurately, and on schedule. This position plays a key role in promoting resident engagement and enhancing communication throughout the community.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

• Plan, organize, and coordinate all content for the community newspaper
• Write, edit, and proofread articles to ensure clarity, accuracy, and consistency
• Photograph community events to support storytelling and visual content
• Meet with departments, board members, and community leaders to gather news, announcements, and event schedules
• Coordinate advertising opportunities, including rate sheets, ad placements, and partnerships within Kings Point.
• Maintain a content and production calendar to ensure all deadlines are met
• Serve as the primary liaison with the printing vendor to oversee quality production and timely distribution
• Present publication updates, design concepts, and content plans to the Board of Directors when required
• Ensure compliance with communication standards, branding guidelines, and confidentiality policies

 

Required Experience and Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or related field preferred
• Experience in writing, editing, journalism, or publication production (print or digital) required
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to build relationships across departments and with residents
• Excellent writing, grammar, and proofreading abilities
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines
• Proficiency with publishing software (e.g., Adobe Suite, Canva, Microsoft Publisher) is preferred
• Experience working in a residential community, nonprofit, hospitality, or recreational services environment is a plus

 

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Prolonged periods of sitting or standing while working on a computer or attending meetings

• Ability to lift up to 20 pounds occasionally (newspaper boxes, printed materials, etc.)
• Occasional walking throughout the community to attend events, take photos, or collect information

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

• Standard office environment with occasional work conducted outdoors during community events
• Frequent interactions with residents, community partners, and internal staff
• Fast-paced, deadline-driven publication environment
• May occasionally require work in evenings or weekends for event coverage or Board meetings

 

TRAVEL:

Occasional travel may be expected for this position.
