About the Department
The City’s Water Treatment Plant is in search of a short-term worker to learn Water Plant operations under the guidance of certified Water Treatment Operators. This includes flow adjustments, sampling drinking water for quality control, monitoring plant performance, cleaning and calibrating equipment, handling chemicals safely, and learning Water Treatment Plant data management and maintenance software. Flexible scheduling to work around class schedules.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
The following duties are intended to be done alongside and/or with the guidance of WTP Operators:
- Learn the operations of both of the City’s Water Plants.
- Adjust flows and chemicals.
- Perform quality control water sampling and analysis on raw, settled, effluent, and distribution system water.
- Handle chemicals safely.
- Review Operator Training and other safety manuals.
- Conduct daily plant “walk throughs”.
- Monitor plant performance through routine operational rounds.
- Inform WTP Operators of equipment repair needs.
- Monitor membrane IT, backwash, and CIP processes.
- Perform light maintenance.
- Inspect and adjust raw water intakes.
- Clean and calibrate WTP analytical equipment.
- Learn how to use WTP data management and maintenance software.
Position Duties
- Working toward a degree in Science, Engineering, or a related field;
- Valid driver's license is required;

Minimum Qualifications
- High school graduation, or equivalent. Some experience and/or advanced-level course work in water treatment, environmental health, or a related field is preferable.
- Must possess basic computer skills.
- Must possess a valid driver’s license.
