General Description / Primary Purpose

The Nursing Simulation Technician supports the delivery of high-quality, immersive simulation-based learning experiences for nursing students. This role is responsible for the technical operation, maintenance, and setup of high-fidelity patient simulators and related equipment. Working closely with faculty and the Manager of Simulation, the technologist ensures that simulation environments are realistic, safe, and aligned with educational objectives. The position plays a key role in enhancing student learning by enabling seamless, technically sound simulation sessions that reflect current clinical standards.

Job Functions

  • Technical Operations & Equipment Management

    • Operate, program, and maintain high-fidelity patient simulators and medical equipment (e.g., ventilators, IV pumps).

    • Perform routine maintenance, software updates, and calibration of simulation equipment.

    • Manage video capture systems for simulation debriefings and assessments.

    • Track inventory, monitor equipment usage, and assist with procurement of new technologies.

    • Maintain simulation lab readiness, including resetting environments post-scenario.

    • Enforce safety protocols and ensure compliance with lab policies.

  • Simulation Support & Coordination

    • Provide real-time technical support during simulation sessions and skills labs.

    • Assist faculty and simulation educators with scenario execution and troubleshooting.

    • Ensure all technical components function smoothly during live simulations to minimize disruptions.

  • Collaboration & Program Support

    • Coordinate simulation schedules and logistics with faculty and the Manager of Simulation.

    • Document simulation activities, including participant data and equipment maintenance logs.

    • Stay current with emerging simulation technologies and best practices.

    • Contribute to a safe, inclusive, and effective learning environment for all participants.

Marginal Functions

  • Assist with special events, open houses, or community outreach involving simulation demonstrations.

  • Support faculty and staff training on new simulation technologies or equipment.

  • Participate in professional development opportunities related to simulation and healthcare education.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • May provide guidance to student workers or volunteers assisting with simulation setup and breakdown.

  • No direct supervisory responsibilities.
