JOB SUMMARY: Under general supervision of licensed personnel, monitors and responds to patient needs. Observes instructions of the nursing staff in line with established routines. Provides maximum resident/patient care services to assure well being of the resident. Acquires necessary equipment for procedures and explains procedure to patients and families. OSHA Bloodborne Pathogens Class I.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Under direction of licensed personnel, administers direct bedside nursing care.
- Performs personal care according to requirements of the resident including bathing, perineal care, shaving, grooming hair, mouth care as conditions of patient warrants.
- Provides food and nourishment to resident and collects specimens.
- Prepares resident for treatments.
- Assists in transportation of residents.
- Assists residents in the activities of daily living in accordance with the plan of care and the established policies and procedures of the unit.
- Provides service direct to residents while maintaining a positive patient relations atmosphere.
- Documents resident care according to established policy and procedure.
- Assists in maintaining logs, charge tickets and reports.
Assists in carrying out physician orders and requests for restorative care.
- Helps to evaluate residents and determine the most desirable type of treatment.
- Assists with the performance of selected rehabilitative and therapeutic activities and exercises.
Provides respect due to each resident, family member and co-workers.
- Avoids unnecessary exposure during care.
- Speaks politely to and considers preferences of resident.
- Includes residents in decision making.
- Introduces self and reason for being there.
- Refrains from engaging in casual conversations with co-workers in open areas in view of residents and visitors.
Participates in the resident care management.
- Reports observed data or change in condition to LVN or RN.
- Attends change of shift report and makes notes of facts important to nursing care.
- Maintains accurate and timely records according to hospital policy and procedures
- Assists in maintaining a clean, safe environment for residents, finding and correcting situations that have a high probability of causing accidents or injuries to residents.
- Recognizes legal implications if physician’s orders are not carried out correctly.
- Recognizes when a situation cannot be handled and requests help from proper personnel when necessary.
Maintains Supplies and equipment.
- Cleans equipment and returns to storage area as appropriate.
Requirements
- Education – High school Graduate or equivalent
- Job Related skills – Ability to read and write with effective oral and written communication
- License, Registry or Certification – Certification as Nursing Assistant in Texas
- BCLS certification
- Experience –
- Prior Work Experience -
- One year experience in a medical setting preferred
- Technical Training – Computer skills required.
- Physical and Mental Requirements -
- Position requires extended periods of walking and standing.
- Repeated bending, stooping and reaching.
- Lifting to 50 pounds.
- Transferring and lifting or supporting patients who may experience sudden weakness or inability to stand.
- The ability to comprehend and follow written or verbal instructions and directions and to instruct employees.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT REQUIREMENTS
- Follows aseptic procedures and procedures for using precautions when involved in direct patient contact or handling potential infectious materials.
- Maintains HIPAA required and all other confidentiality while working with confidential matters on a daily basis.
- Follows MCHD Policies and Procedures and safety guidelines.
- Performs other duties as assigned by the department management staff.
