The Occupational Therapist Specialist evaluates patient?s conditions, plans, organizes, and participates in rehabilitative programs that facilitates return to optimal functional abilities, improve mobility, relieve pain, increase strength, and decrease or prevent deformity of patients suffering from disease or injury, including patient and family education. This position is a subject matter expert in daily operations and/or specific area of patient care. This therapist serves as a resource for area of expertise and guides clinical practice, quality improvement, and program development in support of the manager. This position effectively and efficiently performs all occupational therapist essential job functions seamlessly between all diagnoses and complexities.
Responsibilities
Oversees thorough evaluations of patients' physical abilities, medical history, and functional limitations and synthesizes all information to develop individualized treatment plans. Administers therapeutic exercises and other interventions to improve patients' strength, flexibility, and range of motion. Educates patients and their families on treatment plans, home exercises, and self-management techniques to improve recovery outcomes. Collaborates with others in developing and implementing discharge plans and recommendations for continued care. Monitors and documents patients' progress, treatment outcomes, and responses to interventions so that treatment plans can be adjusted as needed. Collaborates on teams from different departments to ensure coordinated patient care and holistic treatment outcomes. Is a subject matter expert and leads clinical practice in specified area and keeps abreast of evidence-based practices and presents information for considerations and incorporation into practice. Leads programs/projects related to specified area. Works with team to delegate appropriate patients/tasks to other team members to free self for professional duties. Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION:Required: Bachelor's degree in Occupational TherapyEXPERIENCE:Required: 6 yearsLICENSURE/CERTIFICATION/REGISTRY/LISTING:Required: Licensed by the North Carolina Occupational Therapy Board; BLS (CPR)-American Red Cross or AHA Healthcare Provider
